Cairo feedback: Finally found Cairo, and may be the first to be disappointed as it was not the treasure trove of beautiful fabric I had expected. First, the young guy tried to convince me that 35dh was a good price for plain stretchy fabric ie t-shirt material. Really? I said, moving on and leaving the pretty awful assortment of colours. I then asked if they stock Liberty, and he knew exactly what I meant, and lead me to a row of nasty fluoro floral prints:- cheap fabric with that painted-on pattern in rough cotton. We had a funny/ friendly debate about what Liberty is ie an actual brand of tana lawn cotton...the seam says 'liberty' not 'happy flower'! I was annoyed that it turned out he knew it wasn't Liberty the whole time, but first said they stock it and kept trying to convince me. Nothing worse than dishonest salespeople. I wouldn't have minded so much if the fabric had been nice, but I left with nothing. Moral of the story is Yes, it's 3 floors of fabric, but in my view it was mostly of the garish or rough or polyester variety. I have seen nicer quality fabric in the basement of Carrefour on Airport Road (including a shop that sells only Liberty print). But if you want fabric for crafts or basics, you might find what you need at Cairo.
Biggest fabric shop for men and womans fabric is Cairo which is on 3rd. Go down 4th from the Corniche, turn right into 3rd and cairo is a big shop near the end on the right with green sign frontage ( 3 floors of fabric but barter).
For beading, go to bottom floor under carrefour on Airport Rd. Sewing shop there with heaps of beading stuff.
