Hello Everyone,

Seems this topic has been covered a few times, my husband and I are going to be moving down to Abu Dhabi in the next few weeks. What I am hoping for is that someone can give me an idea as to how much we should be budgeting for utilities... Currently we are in company accommodation so all that is taken care of; whereas in Abu Dhabi we will just be given accommodation allowance.

I read on another forum that up to AED 1,000 per month is typical for chiller charges? Is this right?

How easy is it to find work down in Abu Dhabi? I'm currently a conveyancer; but it took me forever to get started in Dubai and I'm wondering if I need to preapre myself again to start over. I am also a qualified fitness trainer so will hopefully be picking up some group exercise classes around the city too if anyone knows of anything going :)

Sorry for the long post ladies, any advice is hugely helpful xx

Well we have no kids I am 41 he's 38 and we hands down prefer AD, Dubai is just busy 24/7, the malls are always packed everything is always on the go, I love a bit of life and certainly enjoy my night life, but I felt it would burn us out very quickly living there, add to that the cost of everything being way more expensive in Dubai, I enjoyed living there but I'd rather pop through for the weekend than live there all the time, but that said I believe it's fairly common for people to enjoy the place they went to first more, so for me that was AD and I love it.

If you were given the choice of working and living in Dubai or working and living in Abu Dhabi, which one would you choose? it depends.... you would need to give me more information, family, singles, couples, how much money for housing etc etc etc they are very different

I moved to Dubai from AD last year and you will find the running costs in AD are generally less than Dubai, in fact I would say even though we were saving a whopping 52k per annum on rent we were lucky if we were breaking even on that with the increased cost of everything in Dubai, utilities, taxis, drinks, shopping all more expensive oh and the cost of travelling back to AD a couple of days per week, although the gap in rent's isn't as much as it was back then, don't be too put off by the high rents in AD as it definitely comes back to you in other ways, that said as BB points out your accommodation choices will be limited by what you want to spend.

Thanks busybee2! We'd ideally be in a 2 bed apartment but I think maybe I'll go just one in a bid to keep our costs down!!! Eeeek, 2k... We'll both be working full time,so not in all that much really. Who knew moving an hour away was so much to negotiate... :) dxb housing is very very very different.
