Hi all, Husband working in AD for 18 months now - I hope to join my husband in Sept in AD, I have rung all British curriculum schools in AD and none of them have spaces available for my boy going in to year 1 (I have another boy going in to FS1). They have waiting lists from 50-200 kids. Didn't think it would this hard. The only school with an available place is Gems Cambridge International the new one opening in Sept. Don't know what it's like at all as I'm not living in AD at present. Where exactly is the new school located???? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Could look in to living in Dubai to get a school for my two boys and my husband work in AD and commute. Any advice on this?? Thanks in advance! :) the new gems cambridge is in baniyas next to the new mall opposite mafraq hospital, there is also reach british school which is the other side of the junction opp mafraq hospital. they are both in the stages of being built, gems is a little further along but is going to be a bigger school. reach i can see everyday from my house and the building is there, they are now doing the insides etc. i wouldnt consider doing the commute from ad to dxb. especially as if you work for government or semi government you are not allowed to if you want a housing allowance, and this will be coming in no doubt for private companies too. it is hard getting places but everyone is in the same boat, at least now there are many more brit schs to choose from, in the past there was only 2. also new this year is repton and cranleigh.

My child will be starting FS2 with them in September. Hopefully the school will be ready. What I have seen it all looks very promising and I like the location of the school ;)

Yes, the new school opening in September? gems is a well known uae brand, cambridge high school has been around auh for years, it was the only choice with bsak when we first arrived on these shores, the only issue that people really didnt like cambridge was that its in mussafah and at that time nobody lived off the island, no kca or mbz or al reef etc, so it was a long way to commute, the kids were bused in, but as its also in mussafah residential area that was another reason why people shunned it, but its a pretty good school, so the new one should be just as good.
