Hi all!

First time posting on here, sooo hello!

It looks like I am going to be offered a position in Abu Dhabi shortly. Currently, I work in Doha. The job situation in AD would be WAY better than where I am now for a number of reasons, but we're not sure how it will work out job wise for my husband.

So a few practical questions:

Any advice on helping hubby to find work? Is it difficult for him to find work once he is on the country? If I sponsor him, will it be difficult for him to transfer his visa (it's been a HUGE issue in Qatar)? Does it take a long time for someone to find work once they are in AD?

Regarding our 5 year old son, will he have difficulty getting in to a school? (another huge problem in Doha- he doesn't have a space for next year at the moment!)

Regarding hiring a nanny for our baby, what are the options for hiring someone to work for us at our house? Do you have to sponsor someone or is it easy enough to find someone living in AD already?

Thank you so so much for your comments/advice!

:)

Hi ladies, Thanks for your answers! I'm a teacher, so it looks like I could sponsor my husband if we wanted to go that route, but that's proven to be a bit of a problem in Doha. (not the sponsoring part- but the fact that he entered the country already sponsored made finding work not too easy) We reeeally wish we could bring our lovely nanny from Doha, but her siblings are in Doha, don't think that will work. I'm very anxious about finding someone to help our family. welll... hmmm, bummer the school thing is such an issue. So yeah, seems like things are not that different from Doha... grrr...!! doha is like the "old abu dhabi 15 years ago" so doha is "like" auh not the other way, but auh is a bit better.

bb2 - do you know what's happening about the maid situation? I'm more than confused! i dunno as i havent got one so i cant personally comment, but it sounds like usual stuff different person different rules.. but also they may be getting confused with the minimum salary and what you put down on your fee each year etc as they can be two different amounts... of course some countries now have minimum salary but the same as the prices apparently have gone up just now for shipping dogs etc so who knows...

first of all... what job do you do? only the likes of teachers, doctors, engineers etc can sponsor their husband... and yes you have a big problem getting a 5 year old into school, as there are not enough spaces at all, you would need to look at the newer schools opening this sept such as ayjal in mbz and reach british sch in baniyas or if you have big pockets cranleigh, but think thats full. maids: you need to use an agency or sponsor.... same rules apply as doha i would say its no different.
