Hi Social Worker, it will be difficult to find a job as a social worker for a number of reasons - language barrier (unless you are fluent in Arabic) and also social work doesn't exist in the UAE as we know it in the UK, USA etc. I was a team manager in London for 11+ years and have managed to make use of my qualifications and experience by working as a school counsellor and child protection officer. ADEC ( basically the dept of education) will only approve someone as a school counsellor if they have a degree in psychology, social work or sociology so if you have one of those than I would suggest checking school counsellor posts out. There are 'social workers' here in AD who work for the social support centre, which is part of the police and they help in family matters but usually they have taken a couple of modules if psychology, ethics etc and aren't trained as you or I were. CP is also in its infancy here, with legislation going through parliament in Jan this year but policy and procedures still awaited. I hope that helps and it's great you are here as they aren't enough of us with the experience and qualifications here and if you hold out, you may well be able to out your experience and skills to good use

unfortunately thats the way of the world here.... unless you can get a transfer from a uk company etc who know about your experience, very unlikely because they require degrees and being able to tick boxes for most positions here.

Thanks for your reply. Such a shame as somebody could have a degree with no experience at all. Do they have any charities over here which may be different? Just wish there was a way to come over here. I have fallen in love with the country!

unfortunately here in the mena they require degrees, and they have to tick their boxes, so if you fall outside that box you wont get anywhere.. unless you are transfered over from the uk with a uk company etc you arent going to get very far as its just the way it works here.

Hello ladies I wonder if somebody could help me. I have been a Social Worker in the UK for over 20 years and I now manage a team of Social Workers. I qualified before the Degree in Social Work and my qualifications (CQSW/DipSW) are More than recognised in the UK. I have attempted to apply for Social Work jobs in Abu Dhabi but can't get past the first stage as they ask for a BA in Social Work! I have a wealth of experience and so much to give. I would love to work in Abu Dhabi/UAE and experience a different culture. Would any of you have any suggestions on where I could go from here? Thanks so much.
