Hi everyone I have recently been given a job in Abu Dhabi and I move in 4 weeks. I have researched it quite a bit but it would be nice to hear other people's views. I am wanting to know a few things really:
Mobile phone- can you get contracts with a phone over there for similar price to here or is pay as you go best?
Internet- I will need Internet access where I live what's the average price for this?
Shopping- where is the best places to shop?
Leasing a car- how much is this?
Nightlife- I have found quite a few bars online any suggestions for 27 yr old female?
Beaches/pools- are there public beaches that anyone can go on and wear bikinis or is this strict?

Forgot to mention I will be staying in Mohammed Zayed City area.

I know that's alot but any people's opinions would be great thank you :)

Just wanted to add that taxis are plenty and easy to find...they go by meter so you cannot be cheated with fees. In Dubai they cost slightly more than in Ad. To get to Dubai, very cheap from Busstation...get off at Trade centre and take short drive via taxi to Dubai mall.Spend day therea and take metro out to Ebn Battuta...take bus back before 8pm....have a gooood day in Dubai after your first salary! And remember Karama for a nice fake handbag!! :)

For clothes etc personally my favourite shopping malls are Abu Dhabi mall and Mushriff mall, (New Look, Matalan, H&M etc.) but after going to Marina Mall recently there were far more shops than before so that's a good bet too, don't know the ones at the MBZ end of town though. I leased a car when I first came (but to Dubai) and it cost me around 1700-1900 dhs a month I believe for a Toyota Yaris. My Pajero doesn't cost much more than that on my instalment plan, but unless your company offers an interest free loan then I would stick with a rental to start with and see how it goes. Good nightlife spots close to MBZ will be Left Bank at Souk/Shangri La, as well as places in Yas Island like Stills and Y-bar, there's also Coopers at Park Rotana and a place at Aloft. Lots of other places in town like Trader Vics, Yacht Club, Oceans, a longer ride but do-able. Most of these offer 'ladies nights' (I.e. free drinks for ladies on certain nights) The public beach is the opposite end of town to MBZ but an easy drive outside of peak times, bikinis are fine for the beach both hotels and public. Good luck with the move. :)
