Hi Ladies

DH has been offered a position within his company in Al Ain - means moving from Dubai. Firstly, are we mad for even considering this and secondly, can anyone provide advice? I have been to Al Ain once for my visa run before getting my permanent residency visa and liked the general feel of the place. Trying to find info on t'interweb is like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. We would be looking for a 2 bed apt (with communal gym and pool) - best areas? Which supermarkets are there and can you get everything you need? What is the job situation like for wives and are there recruiters in Al Ain itself? Any other info you can provide would be very gratefully received. TIA.

dlt, thanks for the info. We swung thru Al Ain Mall once while we were doing the visa run. I like the feel of the place - less hectic than Dubai and a bit more laid back. DH is still in negotiations with work so we are still just waiting with baited breath to see where we end up!

Hi outspan, welcome to Al Ain! It's much quieter than Dubai, but there's still a fair bit going on, and Dubai is just over an hour away... In terms of housing - there's a new development (like a compound) in an area called Muwaiji which is fairly central. Haven't been in but driving past it looks like they're townhomes. Will try and get the name (and a number if there's one posted) the next time I drive by. A nice apartment complex is in the town centre - it's called Al Mada and is above Choitram's. Other than that I'm not sure about apartments as most people I know are in villas. Rents are apparently coming down, but still probably higher than Dubai. Supermarkets: Carrefour (2), Lulu (3), Choitrams (2) and Spinneys (1). Malls have most of the usual shops, including UK high street and M &S. No Ikea. Jobs - depends what line of work you're in. Not sure if there are recruiters, to be honest, though guess there probably are. A good source of information for Al Ain is Oasis Magazine - http://myoasisliving.com/ There's also a website called Al Ain Expat - http://www.alainexpat.com/ - both of these should give you good information about life in Al Ain, but feel free to post more questions on here - am sure other Al Ainites will come on and answer! There are also coffee mornings, though not sure when etc. Good luck with your move.
