Hi,

Have read a number of threads on nurseries and also googled a number of them. I am confused as it seems like many of them are only open 8am-2pm and have terms so are not open for a few weeks at the end of each term. How does someone work full time in AD if they are not able to put their child into nursery full time? Do most people end up with a maid? My son currently attends nursery in the UK from 8am-5:30pm and I would prefer he went in AD as I think it is really good for him socially.

We are likely moving to AD in November and I am hoping to find a job to start in the new year so that we have time to settle and get familiar with things.

Thanks!

Hi there. We are also hoping to move to Abu Dhabi from early October onwards and actively looking for work but expect better luck once we are already there and able to attend face to face interviews. As someone else mentioned, I'm hopeing we stay local to where my hubby family are currently living as I was going to use Teddy Bear nursery and then sept 2012 move him over to the british school. A lot depends on where we secure work to be honest so nothing is set in stone. They do however provide extended hours until 5pm (although still a little short of work hours) for extra costs. I also have a baby who is too young for nursery until the new year and after MUCH checking back and forth ave decided a mad is the way forward. If my mother in law will care for kids for a few hours a day we are going to have a maid working from just before we leave for work until late afternoon. She'd be in charge on the baby's childcare until 2pm by which time my mother in law would have to be home to be ready for son to be dropped off from nurrsery, then maid will spend some time just generally cleaning and finish for the day. Mother in law would then loook after kids 2pm-6/7pm when the first of us gets home from work. If mother in law not able/willing to help out then maid would have to do the full day. It's do-able but means you really need to think about making pay and work conditions reflect the long hours.

there is a new nursery opening hopefully in jan they are doing all the paperwork now, called kids academy its a british nursery coming over here, they are just setting up, they have got permission for the usual up to 2pm but if enough people were to enquire regarding extended hours they may be more accommodating as they are new.

Thanks. It's a shame but perhaps there is a business opportunity there then! I guess it will be a maid but I don't really want live in, have seen it is possible to get live out at a slightly higher cost. Maybe he can go to nursery a couple mornings a week so he can make some friends.

unfortunately this is not the uk, and nurseries really just do school hours, ie 7.30/8 till 2.30 etc some will do extended hours but will charge more, they are expensive enough as it is. try teddy bear in kca. the ones that may do longer hours will not necessarily be expat nurseries they will be more arabic orientated etc. full time work here people employ maids to look after child and school bus to get back and forth from nursery etc
