Really?? i thought oats are part of the clean eating plan.. i have a book by Ashly bines (Austrailian) and she describes options of bfast, lunch and dinner. Oats is number 2 on her list after boiled egg. I had my cooked oats yesterday morning and i have to say i wasnt even hungry to have any morning snack.. i also have a book i purchased by ashly bines called green smoothies (V healthy) i can share it with you (she does use protein shakes in some but you can omit them, thats what i plan to do since i am against these things) if you want, Since you are a smoothie person and i hope to start being one soon..By the way do you use any specific blender for this or is my usual blender ok??

Funnily enough, I've just given up oats (and all other grains) as part of my "eating healthy" plan. If you are eating oats then whole oats, soaked overnight are best. I now have a green smoothie every morning, I always thought they sounded repulsive but I'm now hooked. You can pre-prep them in batches and store in freezer bags, I find them way more filling than oats. My husband isn't into the smoothies so he has replaced oats with soup which he freezes into portions as well. I am amazed at how much less hungry I am now that I'm not eating grains, no late night cravings and I'm not even hungry when I get up in the morning.

The reason i don't get time is because when i reach home which is usually 7 730 i immediately get to the kitchen prep my dinner and put it in the oven.. then attend to my daughter. have my dinner when its ready. then relax for an hour and 30 mins before i start my insanity. after that i take a shower then head to the kitchen to prepare my bfast. so basically i never have any leftovers unless i make soup.. i might make soup today. I usually make Lentil with mixed veggies and add a lot of spices then blend it all together when its cooked. really yummy with lemon .. and very healthy as well.

Thanks for the ideas, my diet is usually either 2 boiled eggs, jordans nutty crunch, or oats (I did it today). For lunch i try my best to eat healthy but working from 8-6 means i have to get takeaway. so i usually have a subway salad or subway SW the 6 grams of fat or less one with all veggies, vinegar, pepper and mustard. I know i can get from home and probably it will be better but i honestly dont get much time when i reach home.. all i have time for is to make bfast. as for dinner, it is either an egg white omlete with veggies and feta cheese, spinach and sundried tomatoes. or Oven baked salmon, or chicken. Today i am making spinach salad with boiled eggs since i had oats in the morning. i usually snack on Almonds or rice cakes. i tried oats today for the first time ever. i got the Roland steel cut oats and it was delicious and filling. i added 3/4 cup of oats, 2 cups of water and a bit of milk to make it creamy. i then added a pinch of salt and 1 TBsp of cinnamon. after 30 mins i partitioned it. in the morning i added bananas with cinnamon, walnuts and almonds. it was soo gooooood... can't wait to try different recipes.. Lettie i'll definitely try yours.. Thanks again.. Lettie and Seabee6

Another oats idea: 50g rolled oats 1 tablespoon sultanas/raisins 1 tablespoon pumpkin/sunflower seeds 1 tablespoon chopped almonds 25g dried apricots (chopped) 2 tablespoons orange/apple juice 2 small apples grated 3 tablespoons milk Just mix and enjoy. It is enough for 2 portions. I usually mix double/triple the dry ingredients and store it in the fridge for later use. Every morning I just grate the apple and mix it with 60g (+/- per portion) of the mixture and the juice. I leave the milk out. It is yummy, very filling and low GI.

Quaker makes steel cut oats... I think the type matters more than the brand! I do fruit with the yoghurt, just whatever berries or other fruits we have at the moment. Add some granola and you have a yummy parfait! For lunches I'm usually eating leftovers or soups, nothing too big. The dinners vary greatly but are a good mix of fish, chicken & whole beef based on whatever the e-meals plan is. So I keep it boring for breakfast & lunch but mix it up for dinner. Hope this helps!!

Thanks for your reply, you think i'll find that in waitrose or spinneys? The only oats i've seen in CO-OP, C4, and Lulu is quaker? so i guess that's not good yeah? So for your bfast you only have the 0% fat freek yogurt? what about the rest of the day? do you mind sharing your typical day food routine? I really want to start eating healthy

Also... If you are looking for clean eating ideas for dinner, check out eMeals.com weekly dinner plan service. It's cheap if you search for discount codes on retailmenot.com. I love this service...you get a weeks worth of dinners planned out with a shopping list. The downside is the measurements are all ounces, lbs so I'm constantly googling conversions.

Hi singarosa, I think you want to look for steel cut oats and avoid the quick cook or instant type. Steel cut take longer to cook (20-25 min on stovetop) so do it in batches. I put fruit or cinnamon in mine. Or should say, used to. I haven't found steel cut oats here in C4 or Lulu but haven't looked elsewhere. I'm on a Fage 0%fat Greek yoghurt for breakfast kick at the moment. Maybe an organic store will have them.
