Hello Ladies, I am so excited to find this website! My family and I will be moving to Abu Dhabi from the US in Feb. with my husbands company. I have ran across a concern though. My doctor has had me on 2 medications for the past 5 years that from what I can tell are banned from UAE. One is a mild Anti depressant and the other is to help me sleep. Neither is even considered controlled in the US. I can bring a small supply over with a doctors note but once I run out I'm very worried about what I will do. I have tried to stop taking them in the past but became very anxious and went for days with no sleep. Does anyone have these similar issues or know of any information about this?
Thank you!

Thank you! dont worry. if you have drugs that are on the controlled lists in the uae, then you must bring them in original container, with your original details etc on, a letter from the doctor and the prescription etc. we do have a problem in the abu dhabi particularly at getting the same items, years ago i had problems getting large sized nappies...!!!! but its a little better now. if they do not stock your medication here, then you will have to swap to an alternative type. they do not have the same supply and stock of medication here. in order to get anti-depressants you will need to go and see a pyschiastrist here in abu dhabi there arent many about, other than at the government hospitals but very difficult to get in if an expat, the other place to go is the american center for neurology and pyschaitry, dr yousef head doc there is able to prescribe medication even if its on the controlled lists. you cannot get controlled drugs over the counter (and here in the uae even codeine is banned). some sleeping pills are on the controlled list, and its expensive as you have to pay like 500 dhs to get the doctor to write out the script in order to go to the pharamcy to get the pills, which you then pay like 6 dhs for !!! as they will only give you a couple or so at the time. look here http://www.americancenteruae.com/our-staff/ there is a little bit more choice in dubai.
