Hello. I am new to both the UAE and the forum. I live in Al Ain and plan on homeschooling my second grader. I have a degree in elementary education with a bachelors in science. I plan on using the K12 program as my sons transcripts will transfer and remain official no matter where life takes us. I AM WRITING BECAUSE I AM INTERESTED IN A HOMESCHOOLING CO OP. I am not concerned with nationality, age or choice of curriculum. I really want my son to remain socialized and I am interested in sharing ideas and offering help where I can. Please reply if you are interested.
You can find out more here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/alainhomeschoolers/
I understand there are quite a few homeschoolers in AD - don't know about Al Ain. My son has met quite a few of them at the wrestling club here [he was fascinated by the idea of being homeschooled, lol'>. This may help:

i hope that you know that uae do not really like homeschooling, if you went down that line yourself you would have to repeat years as they would not recognise them, if you want to do home schooling think you will have to go down the lines of k12 curriculum etc.

some people organise taxis or buses. another compound is mangrove village/seashore i know they have a private bus going from there to bsak so i am sure there will be others.
al nayhan area is on island lots of villas/compounds of different size units. close to bsak and bc, obviously a bit of a drive up salam st to yasmina etc.
Thanks bb.... For all the info. I was hoping they were off island like yasmina. As we think off island would be better like u say more choice of housing and cheaper. Don't think I'll be able to do the traveling onto island everyday because of the big age gaps in my kids ill have three different pick up times in two yrs time :-@
Have you heard of golf/ gulf gardens? Heard that was a good community as there's no community's in AD like Dubai which is disappointing.
yes ad is very very different than ad. communities it really depends on your budget. golf gardens is good right by yasmina, but people do commute to the likes of bsak and bc from there, a bit of a nitemare at the junction with ad golf club, too many cars but hey what do you expect if you build a housing estate on top of the golf course!
on island you can look at khalyida village, mushrif gardens etc, both close to aldar schools and bsak, further to go to bc.
for bc. you can look at the new compounds dotted along al salam st.
sas al nakheel is a good compound people commute to all schools from there, closest to brighton college and yasmina, but not that far away from bsak.
the hills is a new one and also al maaqta village up by the grand mosque, again you can go both directions on or off island.
the thing though is that things change with the pick up times, years ago i had 1 hour wait between mine but now the school has changed and now there are only 15 mins between them. if you have different schools/times you cope either with making arrangements to share with others or you just have to work around it with after school clubs, especially with an older one if you have year 8 etc. sometimes you are stuck and on those occasions my kids go home on the normal municipality buses so try and see if they are close by to use as plan b etc.
you need to apply to them ALL.

Hi
We are having to move to AD from Dubai because my dh works for the government. I'm looking at schools at the moment. I will be putting my kids name down at al yasmina. But just found out they have sister schools which are al barren secondary school and al mushrif primary school. Aparently they share a campus at the moment till mushrif campus is ready. Does anyone know where these schools are? Also where mushrif school will be once it moves?
As ill have a yr 8 and a fs2 plus a fs1 in three years time so I need to know if I can travel between the schools quickly.
Also where is the best places to live nr the schools as well?
I need a 4 or a 5 bed plus maids.
Thanks
Firstly how much money would you spend on rent.... expensive in town by those schools.
mushrif school is sharing facilities with bateen secondary school as they havent added all their years yet, which is located between 13th and 11th and 28th and 30th. they are building mushrif school but mushrif area is a few blocks away, with the traffic could be difficult depending on the timings.
aldar have many schools, obviously some primary some secondary and some cater for all.
pearl, muna just primary
bateen, secondary
yasmina primary and secondary.
look also at brighton college that goes up to year 8 and bsak thats the most established brit sch goes all the way from 3-18.
also look at cambridge high school as an alternative too.
yasmina is off island and so if you get places there you will have lots of villas etc to choose from.
bateen, mushrif, bsak etc are on island and so if you have a big budget you will find if not you will maybe do what every one else does and commutes from the mainland.
i would put applications in for all schools.
