I have recently arrived in Al Ain with my Partner and am looking for things to do here and ways to meet people.

I have seen lots of forums talking about coffee groups and what not that all seem to be for woman with children or groups for older people but are there these kinds of things for the 20 - 35 age group who don't have children. I work in Dubai which means I don't get home until 8 at night so can't do a yoga or palates after work it all needs to be on the weekend.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

We are also looking for nice places to go other than malls, theme parks and hotels! We spent last weekend in Abu Dhabi and and went to a Souk and shakespears but I can't seem to find places like that here.

There is an Al Ain Facebook page for expats - they have lots of different outings, bushing walking, souqs, etc. That might be a good place to start. There is also the Al Ain Off Roaders club. You don't have to be an experienced desert driver to join and participate. They have "rookie drives" regularly for beginners and are focused on safe desert fun. All you need is a 4X4 to join. They organise lots of social gatherings. Unfortunately, I think Al Ain tracts more families than just couples, so other than work, your children's school is the best place to meet new people. There are also some charity groups here if you are interested - animals, red crescent etc. There is Shakespeare's at Al Ain (in the new section on the ground floor). Also the Rotana has great buffet evenings - it is a good social hotel. edited by mrsb. on 13/11/2013 edited by mrsb. on 13/11/2013
