To be honest with you, we opted for an Islamic school for our daughter rather than UK or US curriculum school. The reason was that after going to seeing a couple of well known and highly regarded schools, we were shocked to see boys and girls walking around arm in arm, hand in hand. They were not just western children but Muslim boys with western girls and Muslim girls with western boys. This is not was we want for our daughter so we decided on the Pakistani Islamic School. I do think child's will blossom in any school if they get the motivation and support they need. I think the individual teacher rather than the school is important. A great and dedicated teacher who loves our child is a blessing and is invaluable. GEMS schools have a good reputation with a wide mix of nationalities and cultures attending. Personally, I would not opt for a US curriculum unless your child was struggling with academic work. The US or Australian curriculum or an IB curriculum are much harder and prepare the students better for university. I guess it depends upon what you want for them long term. Sorry I can't be of more help. If you are Muslim, then I would advise you consider a school which segregates the students after year three otherwise your children will be exposed to "boyfriends, girlfriends", walking around malls, meeting friends, etc. and while this is acceptable, from a western view point, it definitely is not from an Islamic view point. I hope this is helpful. Good luck. I know choosing schools is a huge responsibility for parents and we never really know if we make the right decision for our kids. I went made running around looking at schools, meeting teachers etc. I think they all thought I was mad!!!! hahaha. The best thing we can do as parents is be involved in everything our children do, help them with their homework etc, removing the full responsibility off the schools and back partially to us, their parents, as it should be. :)
