Hello Ladies,
This has been an abused topic, I know and I am sorry for that ..but I looked around in this forum and could not find the answer to it yet, unless I missed it.

Here's the thing, I have a maid who was transferred on my Visa five months ago, I am not happy with her job despite the several times I told her to get her act together ..I end up cleaning up on weekends when she's enjoying her two-days off!

I'm a full time employee, so is my husband, my daughter is a school grader so the appartment is all empty most of the week..it boggles me that she has all the time to clean and learn a few recipes [she gets 2k per month, free wi-fi, food and toileteries] ..yet she does not seem interested to pay an effort.

A week ago she started to let her long hair down while working around the house, my DH told me he saw hair on the kitchen floor and in our bedroom..I told her today to tie it ...with a frown on her face she just put it on side with a small clip! I mean, is this okay behaviour? I feel she just doesnt want to work...the lady who had her before me, warned me about that but I thought she probably had too much of a wrokload ..it appears she just dosnt' want to work and I cannot handle another weekend rubbing bath tubs and cleaning the pantry!

Please let me know if anyone cancelled the Visa for a maid after as little as 5 months..how should I apprach this? how many weeks notice for her? etc..

Thank you so much mpp_jl , this was very helpful, I should check her contract today. What is really frustrating is that I went over and beyond to help 'release' her from her previous sponsor, once she got her visa she started to slack off and it's been going down hill since- in an accelerated rate too! Thank you for your help again, you provided exactly the information I was looking for.

Hi there, Yes, I understand your situation. Unfortunately it happens all the time. I have to say that sometimes people are just having problem getting used to the new situation, but she is in your house, so I can’t give you any advice on that. If you are not happy with her work and she is not performing her duties as agreed than it is your right to fire her. You should not feel bad about this. All of us are working for certain salary and certain performance is expected from us for the money we are getting. For you to cancel the contract you must check several things: First you need to look at her contract and the notice period mentioned there. Also look at the probation period, as usually it is 6 months and if you are not looking to keep her you should terminate her contract during this probation period due to unsuccessful probation. If neither is mentioned then you should follow the general rules of one month notice. In this case you should know that if you want her to leave immediately you will have to pay her this month. Also if she is going back home you will have to pay her one way ticket to her home country – repatriation. All other cost for the visa cancellation will be on you also. Hope this helps. edited by mpp_jl on 22/10/2012
