Hi there. The only valid license I have is a UAE one. For travel this summer, I want to get an International Driving License. Any idea how to go about doing that here? The information I find by googling is kind of conflicting. Surprise surprise. :)

For anyone still unclear on the procedure, here's how it works in Khalifa City A (or at least how it worked for me. Your experience may vary. This *is* the UAE, after all. :D ): 1) Documents: a) Photocopy of your UAE license, front AND back. b) Photocopy of your passport ID and information page c) Photocopy of your residence visa 2) Two (2) passport-sized photographs 3) Fee: AED140 4) Fill out the form at the post office. They write in your details to the booklet on the spot. Takes less than 10 minutes. Also note: The Khalifa City post office closes at 3PM officially, but 2:45PM for all practical purposes. Cheers.

i did it in Dubai a month ago but it was similar. I needed to pp size photos and about 220dhs (I think). It is valid for a year. It was very easy. I took my pp and i think they did take a copy of that, along with my licence. Hi LB. Did you do this at a Dubai post office? Any particular one, or does it not matter?

The information I find by googling is kind of conflicting. Surprise surprise. :) I did this recently. Take 2 passport pics, copy of your UAE licence, and to be sure a copy of your res visa and main passport page to the Post office at KCA. I'm certain I only paid AED 100 or there abouts. In and out in under 10 minutes.

We had to get one last summer for DH to drive in Italy. Unless the rules have changed since last year, it is quite simple. Take your ordinary licence to the post office here and they have the forms etc to process it. Can't remember the exact amount but think it was like 220dhs or similar and lasts for a year. Hope this helps.
