Hi Ladies,
So I will try and keep this question short, although I am never known for telling a short story! I have about a gazzilion questions but I will start with the time honoured ones for you all! yep considering a move to Ab Dhabs by years end and have two chicken's still in tow. One will be year 6 the other year 8. Have previously had 7 yrs in Dubai before returning home to Australia. So will be swinging from British curriculum to Oz back to British IB? In fantasy land.... and money was not the issue, or finding places in schools, where would be your first choices to live/school be?. I very much look forward to hearing your thoughts and appreciate your time.
Best,
Mable.

Ants unfortunately here a way of life - They were here when I arrived and the villa was brand new - never been lived it - I can't get rid of them no matter what I try. Arghhh, just learning to live with them these days. boric acid and sugar i think is good.

Hey mrsb, yeah I know, grrrrrrr ants!! I developed a strategy of placing everything and I mean everything in tupperware containers. It looked like I had some ocd problem when you opened all the grocery cupboards as I made sure they were all lab led and matching in colour and sizes! it worked! at least I had ant free honey! :) Great idea!!!! I am a great "lock and lock" fan and have everything stashed away in these containers. hehehehe - I do have a bit of an OCD thing going, so no one notices it in my home - hahaha

Morning Girls, trust you all had a good day yesterday, fantastic direction and info. Thank you once again. Yes BB was hoping not to have to stretch as far as 4 but was basing it around my last little gem I described at the tune of 280, so I figured I would be around the same again and top up myself. All to true lanarkwitch can't put the cart before the horse, but it is nice to get that general feel and direction on possibilities for housing. A girl can dream....! As for the maid, yes I will confess I do miss! :) Ok enough chatting from me! thank you, I'm off to clean my bathrooms and wait for the time diff to continue my phoning of schools gaahhh! best, M

With your budget, I would say the Hills Compound, the houses there are gorgeous 5 beds and well within your price range, the prob is that a lot of the nice compound villas are that bit older and that means the dreaded bathroom scenario, also there are newer villas in the Khalifa park area which are also lovely and modern, BB will be able to shout of names, I've forgotten them all, Bloom Gardens might be one, or I could have made that up. Mangrove Village as well, some of those have pools and the decor is OK, we're considering moving back to Seashore next door, for the 3rd time! That said it's all going to depend on where you get school places and never ever agree to give up your maid ever! al seef, al dhabi, al gurm (87 villas) are a few along there..... and yes E bloom gardens is right. e seashore again!!! not town!!!!! mangrove village 5 bedder with a pool, but its a bit tired but once they create the new junction will help, but to warn you E the distruption with the new housing up at "gate city" the new hospital and the new "pipeline" thats going thru!!! school first house second!

You girls are hilarious! I'm sitting here laughing like a hyena! I just about wet myself laughing. When I moved from the last villa I discovered just exactly how the multitude of ants were getting into the kitchen. The tiles were precariously holding themselves up the wall with no grouting to speak of! seems the ants had a healthy, steady diet of grout before moving to my food!!! Anyhow I digress, sorry, I haven't laughed so much in ages! OK so will steer clear of marketing skills used such as Spacious etc! I was thinking of a ball park figure around 350 to 4. I have decided to massage the budget elsewhere this time. i.e.: I can tell you right now 50 things to do with mince! won't need a maid (that's what children are for! haahaaa) only kidding! So, do you think if the planets are aligned and a bit of luck I can find a place that might take me out of the world of grout eating ants and pink/gold bathrooms???!!!!! (she mutters quietly....please say yes, please say yes....) Thanks girls have a great day. Best, M your budget 350 or 400k???? hmmmmmmm most people would be on a good thing if they are getting half of that amount! you can go and get some of the really bling villas with real gold fittings for that amount. definately get you something nice with a private pool in town khaydia area etc.

I saw a great property online yesterday, pink tiles on the wall and green with gold on the floor, with a rather fetching green bathroom suite, to top it off the kitchen was bright yellow, including the cupboards and walls, I would have had to wear sunglasses! As BB says they are still selling those tiles so not much chance they will ever go away entirely, I am currently losing the will to live looking at property in AD at the moment, my top tip is avoid any adds that include superior, luxurious, amazing and spacious :) bling bling..... E you know you need to be on the ground to search out those delights and see for yourself with or without your sunglasses on!

Hi Busybee! Yes I'm afraid 1 yr back and aussie humour has taken a hold again along with my accent! oh dear! heeee That was one lovely thing I gained in Dxb, english mates who encouraged to enunciate!!!! can you hear my cackle? Thank you for all the insight and giving me a steer. It seems that some things never really change hey! Well I shall start at the top of the list and make my way through calling them all. Much like I did 8 yrs ago. Hoohum. I know there is no such thing as the "best" school more like the best for each child and their needs. I guess if I keep an open mind it would have been much the same here in terms of different schools as my two are in single gender schools, not far from each other though so that is good in terms of the driving. oohhh, I can see that housing will come after that once I see where I can place them. I guess it was that idea I had in my head that this time around perhaps, just maybe I could figure somethings out a little earlier! ha! Looks like I will be the greenhorn once again. Thankgoodness for you lot! So, here is another question about housing, currently I have a lovely house with new bathrooms!!!!! ohhhh what a joy! I spent nearly a decade in old old villas in dxb so me and a bottle of bleach became fast friends. As I said in my last post...(fantasy land...) Is it possible to find housing that is modern (new bathrooms no mold and have matching tiles even?) a private pool ...Oh yes I got that too as we live not far from the gold coast so weather is fab. And what would be a general price range for rent? Yes at least I got to enjoy it for a while, sigh. As you know we go where the work is and work together as a family.....you know it would be nice this time if a few creature comforts were there! thanks a bunch for listening. M hahahaha give me an idea with the budget and then i could tell you which areas you could look at! i dont think dxb was as bad for the decor in the older villas as auh, but they still have lovely taste in pink and blue bathrooms with very gold tiles... they are still sold here in the shops!!!!!

I very much look forward to hearing your thoughts and appreciate your time. Best, Mable. hahaha when i first started to read it i thought you were bringing in real chickens etc.... it doesnt matter how much money you have its virtually impossible to get sch places, there are a few new schs opening this year which has helped but because of that they usually dont go far into senior years at all... so thats not going to help your year groups.... i would talk to the registrar of all schools and just see what is available, once you can a place for one child usually the siblings will move up a waiting list... one sch may have a place for the year 8 but not the other and another school may be the opposite so imo i would call up all of them to see..... repton was a new sch opening last year, not sure what year group they are up to now, bcad was a new sch 4 years or so ago, this year they are start to enroll sixth form, but i suspect they will be all full and very hit and miss so nobody would be able to tell you that any school will have places, you would need to ask them directly. you may find that you will have kids in different schools.... places sometimes become available at the very beg of term, because peopel who had confirmed places just dont turn up etc etc for many reasons.
