The Ministry of Presidential Affairs has announced 3 days of mourning in the UAE following the death of Sheikh Khalifa’s mother

3 Days of Mourning in UAE Declared After Passing of Sheikha Hessa

Sheikha Hessa bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the mother of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, the President of the UAE and the first wife of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, founding President of the UAE, has passed away, it has been confirmed today.

News of her death was announced by The Ministry of Presidential Affairs in a statement that read: “In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate, with the hearts of believers in the judgment of God and his destiny.

“His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, mourns the death of Her Highness the late Sheikha Hessa bint Mohammed Al Nahyan, who moved on to her Lord today.”

The Ministry has declared 3 days of mourning in the UAE, starting on Sunday morning.

Tributes have been pouring in from citizens and residents of the UAE, including from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.

He shared his condolences on Twitter, which read: “My sincere condolences to my brother Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the death of Her Highness Sheikha Hessa bint Mohamed Al Nahyan.

"Our condolences to the entire Al Nahyan family, to the people of the UAE and to every lover of the YAE and its President”, he added.
