Dr. Edward David Gent
Dr. Edward David Gent is a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital
Dr. Edward trained at St.Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, London, and worked as a junior doctor at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore before continuing his training with Professor Nick Clarke in Southampton, UK. He finished his training working at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.
He returned to Southampton to work alongside Prof. Clarke in the hip dysplasia clinic, which is part of the International Hip Dysplasia Group and the largest clinical practice in children’s hip dysplasia in the world.
He developed expertise in deformity correction, opening the only tertiary clinic in the UK specifically for children’s upper limb problems. Amongst other clinics, he ran a busy Ponseti clinic for clubfoot and vertical talus, a frame clinic for upper and lower limb deformity correction and limb lengthening and a complex case clinic alongside a practice in paediatric trauma, primarily upper limb including late traumatic deformity correction.
He left Southampton as head of service having seen the paediatric orthopaedic group develop to seven specialists, each with sub specialtiy interests.
Seeking a return to a more general practice he moved to Abu Dhabi in 2019, taking a position at Danat al Emarat Women’s and Children’s hospital before moving to Mediclinic in 2021.
Dr. Edward has a long experience in children’s orthopaedics and is happy to offer you this in caring for your child. Many times he is able to reassure you that a problem is in fact not a problem at all and just a variation of normal that does not need treatment. If there is a real problem present then Dr. Edward will explain it to you and will put together a plan to sort the problem out.
