6 Things Not to Miss at this Year's Middle East Games Con 2017

With so much going on at the first ever Games Con, organised by the same team that bring you the regional powerhouse: Middle East Film & Comic Con (MEFCC), here are our top picks on what to do at the regions ultimate gaming festival later this month.

The event, taking place on 23-25 November at ADNEC, will deliver a packed agenda of cosplay, e-sports, tournaments, competitions and chances to play unreleased 2018 games such as Monster Hunter: World and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

Games Con’s 2017 roster of gaming YouTube stars will be competing live against each other on the event’s Entertainment Stage, in addition to taking part in Q&A sessions with the audience, meet-and-greet with fans, entertainment, masterclasses and prize giveaways.   

1. International gaming celebrities and voice actors

The team at Games Con are bringing you the opportunity to meet with an impressive lineup of international Voice Actor and YouTube sensations.

Voice actors Chloe Hollings (Overwatch, Widowmaker); D.C Douglas (Resident Evil/One Piece/Star Trek Enterprise) and Brina Palencia (Mad Moxxi) are confirmed to make an appearance, and will be doing meet and greets with fans as well as creating personalised voice recordings for you to show off to your friends with. 

Representing the YouTube gaming community is Ali A, Claire Siobhan, Vikkstar and Zerkaa who will battling it out live on stage on multiplayer titles such as Mario Kart Deluxe 8, Pokken Tournament and Forza Motorsport 7. Plus, we have the local YouTube legend King Madness making a special appearance to match his gaming prowess against the fans.

For any budding FPS enthusiast, Ali A will also be running a masterclass on the recently released Call of Duty: WW2 so expect ridiculous KDR’s, big plays and maybe even a Nuclear medal if you’re lucky.

For all those competitive gamers, out there, Klasu, Otterpanda, Saaed, Dizzyy and Moeleley from Yalla eSports fame will all be present this year playing their competitive game of choice for the crowds, and will be joined by other top competitive players from Nasr eSports for talks and meet and greets.  

2. Dragon Ball Fighter Z - need we say more?

Games Con will be showcasing some of the most hotly anticipated unreleased titles on the show floor this year. Be one of the first in the region to play Dragon Ball FighterZ, Dissidia NT - Final Fantasy, Dynasty Warriors 9, Monster Hunter: World, Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, Attack on Titan 2, Gravel and much more – giving you ultimate bragging rights over your friends until they officially hit the shelves.

3. Round 1 - Fight!

Do you think you’ve got what it takes to be the best gamer at Games Con? Test your competitive skills with Power League Gaming with an Injustice 2 and Tekken 7 tournament, for a chance to walk away with a chance to win a chunk of the combined prize pool of more than AED 73,000 in cash! Both tournaments will award winners in daily tournaments on both Friday 24th November and Saturday 25th November at the PLG Arena 4. For those who need to warm up the thumbs or just want to get a little more practice in there will be open play sessions from 2pm onwards on Thursday 23rd November.

MSI heats is looking to crown the first ever collegiate esports champion in the UAE on the Dota 2 battlefield. Featuring a 15,000 AED prize pool players will battle it out to take home the prize and declare their university as the best collegiate Dota 2 team in the UAE.

The tournament features 3 LAN qualifier events across 3 different locations. Top 2 teams from each qualifier will earn a spot in the group stages. From the group stages, we will see 2 teams eliminated, and the top 4 teams will battle it out for the final prize and glory.

Also taking place is the VIVE vs. MSI visitor tournament. Have a shot at the thrilling Multiplayer shooter Pavlov VR (Counter Strike VR) and get the chance for you and your teammate to take home an HTC VIVE each as a reward!

The VIVE vs. MSI Gaming tournament will be hosted at VIVE’s booth for all three days. Registration will be free on-site but the spots are limited.

If you are the more traditional board game type, there will be a series of Table Top Tournaments running through the event. Confirmed games include: Settlers of Catan, Splendor, Star Wars Destiny, Code Name and Ticket to Ride.

4, The Future of Gaming Innovation

Organised in collaboration with the National Media Council, visitors can attend the Games Con Workshops. Dedicated to emerging brands and developers and designed for all age groups and experience levels, the aim of these sessions is to inspire young people to get into the gaming industry. The workshops are free for Games Con ticket holders!

5. Cosplay

Games Con has its very own dedicated Cosplay Contest for Game Fanatics. Bring your favorite world to life and be part of it, dazzle the audience at Games Con and add another trophy to your achievements. 

6. Shop the latest in gaming innovation and hardware

Brands such as PlayStation, MSI, Dell - Alienware, HP Omen and HTC Vive will all be showcasing their latest desktops, laptops and hardware designed to run any triple A game you can throw at it. If you are mad in to your PC and Console gaming, we’ve got you covered.
