Daughter 13 and son 15 have arrived for the summer. We'll be here most of the time and I need ideas for what I can do with them please. I'm new here and a bit clueless. So far they are spending way too much time connected to the wireless in the apartment on the grounds that it is 'way too hot' to do much outside. There's a pool here but it gets the full force of the wind and the water is freezing (freeezzzzing I tell you!) so it has a limited appeal.

Ideas will be most appreciated : )

For those that are new, I just wanted to mention the store skate shack on salwa past decoration r/a. It has bikes, skates, kayaks, etc some stuff teens might like (or might not of liked before but might be willing to like now given the current situation...). I think the kayaks for 2 people started around 4000 qr and would be great at the beach at wakra!

Sorry - just catching this now, but I had a couple of ideas for you. At Villagio, there is an amusement park that is good for kids their age. My teens love it. There's skating and bowling there as well, plus go carts. There is also a paintball center, such as it is, near Al Saad stadium. Maybe you could make a family event of it one evening when it's a bit cooler. We were there during the whole summer our first year in Doha, so I sympathize. :)

Have you thought about some water activities? What about going kayaking, or learning to sail, or learning to scuba? If one of these caught their imagination, it would be an opportunity to head out to do a regular 'thing' at least once or twice a week.

Thanks to all. We are walkable to City Centre so have wandered the mall, had lunches, been to the movies and all that. Haven't skated yet though and I think there's bowling in CC. I don't think that can last all summer (plus DS is not so much of a mall moocher). They would sit welded to their laptops for weeks with little complaint, it's just that I think they ought to leave the apartment once in a while. Will get the Time Out etc. and see what appeals.

hi Also newly arrived, moved from AD, a bit tired and dispirited (no school places for September!) with 3 kids in tow... I've been taking my lot, DDs 11 and 13 and DS 16, to the movies across the malls.... DS catching up on xbox time - stopped him over the exam season - so he's on it like a fly on honey but heeheehee I am having the last laugh because the home internet speed is soooo slooow!!! I'm just enjoying not rushing off to do errands - can't drive here yet - passing the days relaxed and letting the kids tell me if they want to do activities or not... term time I have veto not them so.... good luck edited by ladyluna on 14/07/2011

I know the feeling....I have a 12 yr old at home for 5 weeks out of his 9 week school holiday. There really isn't much to do here & the heat doesn't help. What about ice skating at Villagio? Gondolania also have some rides for bigger kids & there's also the movies. I often just take mine for a browse round one of the malls & then go for a small lunch. It's really difficult especially when every single one of his friends go away for the whole summer!
