Hi. Has anyone done this? Can this be done yourself or would it be better to employ a pet relocation company? Anyone got any idea of costs involved? Thank you!

when you take the pet as accompanied, they should only charge you for the weight...just like an extra piece of luggage. When I flew my dog on Qatar as acc bagg - my actual suitcase weighed around 20 kg and my dog and crate weighed around 18 kgs so they said I could get away with 28kg of allowance without penalty so I had to pay for 10 kgs. QA charges 20gbp per extra kilo. I am pretty sure if you send the pet unaccompanied - it is totally different as it has to go through stricter clearances on both sides. When I sent the dog unaccompanied from US-UK it cost me $1400 usd I would at least check with Janet at Qatar Pet Relocators and let her do the paperwork to leave...and she can advise on the other stuff. In my experience (several years old) accompanied baggage was cheaper. I don't know if you're aware but you will need an export permit from Qatar and an import permit from UAE in order to transport the cat, microchipping, proof of innoculations within a certain time frame including rabies. For those reasons I used a pet relocator - took care of the paperwork and the stress and was worth it to me.

I need to relocate my cat from Doha to Abu Dhabi. Does anyone know if it is cheaper to send it as accompanied or unaccompanied baggage? I have phoned Qatar Airways and they can send the cat either way, but they won't give me a cost or tell me which would be cheaper until I take her there in a cage to get her weighed etc. I am doing it all myself and do not wish to instruct a pet relocator due to the cost involved. Hoping someone here will know. Thanks.
