Thank you so much for the info. I didn't know about a possible second course, I will do a little more digging to see about the time frame, guessing it will take a while...

How long does it take to get to the Doha Golf Club from Y Village? Thanks! Golfers would be best living on the course side of Doha . A second course will eventually open at Education City a little bit closer to Y Village. I don't live there or know the exact commuting times but to me Y -Village seems way out of town. On a Friday morning you may be able to zoom anywhere quickly but other times the traffic must take its toll for residents trying to get downtown or to westbay.

BEDH, My kids are in DESS dubai also And we are moving to Doha by the summer. Would you please ask your friend how she was able to get direct transfer from DESS dubai to DESS Doha.? We are Americans and Dess Doha wouldn't even accept my kids' applications. I have a year 5 and year1. Thanks Her DH has been working here for 2.5 years whilst she has been staying on in Dubai. I think their son has been on the wait list all that time.

That wouldn't be a very pleasant commute to the airport... For the airport and Sherborne you might want to live close to the d-ring highway, since the two places are pretty much on opposite sides of town.

Kiwifrafra, thanks for that update. My hubby will only arrive in Doha on the 12 August. He will be the one in charge of finding a place for us. I am hoping there are still some places left in Y VIllage. Can anyone tell me what the driving time is to the airport from there? He'll be working next to the airport and I'll be taking my 7 year old son to Sherborne. I'm wondering if Y VIllage will suit us?????

Hello jjzdoh, that's great news to hear of another teenage boy in the compound. My children will both be going to the American School, which was very hard to get into, and actually delayed our arrival to Doha, as we were originally hoping to be here for April. We have booked them places on the school bus which is mighty relief having seen the chaos on the roads. Looking forward to catching up with you when you get back.

Hello all, I have just worked out how to add a comment and have read previous inputs with great interest. New to Y Village, just been here for two weeks and it seems very empty so good to read that there are ladies out there. I have two children, Zak 15 and Phoebe 13. Like your daughter Emma, mine was very uneasy about moving here. We are keen to meet people and make the most of our Doha experience. My husband has been here since Jan but all his social life has revolved around work todate. We are in villa 31 near the rear gate. Have been impressed with the compound facilities and the villas. Once school starts I'm keen to see if any like minded ladies interested in some organised fitness classes here may be we could get a personal trainer in to do some group sessions ... Swiss ball, yoga ..... Weights? Would love to hear back from you on [email protected]

Wow ladies, I have just seen your thread and your compound sounds like it is THE place to be in Doha. We are moving from Dubai after Ramadan. We should be up soon to look for a villa. DH only starts his job on 14 August. We have yet to decide on a compound. My 7 year old son will be going to Sherborne, so my month old and I will be hanging out. Do you know offhand if there are any vacancies in Y Village?

Raa.. my hubby says that sherborne can be driven to from Y village via Al fourisya and past the racecourse / equestrian centre or via old rayyan and takes about 15 minutes as the traffic isnt too bad. Y village is only 2 minutes from Al Wabb st and 5 mins to villagio. Due back at the compound on the 27th...

Hello Ladies! Well we visited Y Village last weekend - just a quick visit to measure up and left again as the villa was boiling and kids were crying! So sorry I didn't get to meet any of you this time but we will be there by 5th July (Villa 18) and my hubby should get the keys 10 days before, so our shipment from Dubai can be delivered before I arrive (oh and our menagerie of animals!). Looking forward to meeting you all ! By the way does anyone know of any Maid / nanny looking for full time work (live out maid) Thanks!

Hi Suzanne! Thank you so much for joining in the hunt for my brain damaged cat this afternoon! She's currently collapsed on the floor recovering from her adventure in the heat! Sorry for rushing off, I was so so so hot by the time we found her, being 26 weeks pregnant in the sunshine is not as easy as it should be! Shall we meet up for a drink? I can do this tonight or tomorrow if you are around? Lora x

Hi Ladies our villa on Y Village is booked! Were moving to Villa 18 !! yay! Im coming over Next Sun / Mon to see as hubby booked it and did a crappy video so want to see all for myself :) Bringing the kids aghhh. Anyway sounds great so im more positive about a move from Dubai now. I need to find a nanny / maid (live out) to work for me full time who we will eventually sponsor (although ive also heard from this forum it can be hard to sponsor a maid / nanny if you are not working?) Need someone from July so if any of you know anyone looking for a position who can live out i would love to meet them. Maybe one of your maids knows someone? Or how have you done it? Would love to meet up with you all!!!

Ok, my hubby went for a viewing and loved the villa he saw, we have been sent pictures but it looks like there are different types of villa? He saw one that had a skinny L shaped kitchen, but the pictures sent (the standard PDF I would assume) shows a larger kitchen with a table in it, does this mean there are different size villas or are they all 5 bed exactly the same sq metres?

Hi Claire, ..we are moving tomorrow so hopefully it's been cleaned...was your villa clean and everything sorted when you moved in? Electricity all up and running and everything? We are hoping we can just move the stuff from the fridge here into the fridge there...what do you think? I'd invite you round for a cup of something, but we have no cups! Hopefully our stuff will arrive Sunday or next week anyway...although I think we might have to stop off at Carrefour for a few mugs/glasses!! Looking forward to meeting you! edited by shellsuk on 11/06/2012
