It's in the Doha News...Thursday it should reopen some stores, food court and cinema. Let's support the poor businesses that have also suffered in the wake of the horrific tragedy of the fire.

Are there any kind of tributes put up in the mall to remember the tragedy? Doha news was reporting that any floral or other tributes that have been left are being removed.....

I think both sides of this have valid points, and in the end I think people need to do what they feel is right for themself. I don't condemn those who choose to take a stand and not return to Villagio, but I also don't condemn those who are thinking of the workers affected and will choose to return to Villagio. I don't think there is a right or wrong in this situation.

Wow GinaM, sorry if you feel incensed! We will never forget the families affected by the fire! People lost their lives, and people lost their families, and people lost their livlihoods. It would compound the tragedy for us to not support those who still can salvage a livlihood from this disaster. To boycott the mall so people will be brought to justice faster, is in my humble opinion, naive. It won't happen faster for that, nor will it be glossed over or forgotten because it has reopened, all that it may do is drive some businesses into the ground that are trying to stay afloat. That being said, the mall appears to be only about 15 percent open. The part between Zara and the food court, or ground zero as it were, is blocked off by murals. Carrefour is open and everything looks fresh, Pauls, Dean and Deluca, M&S, Virgin, are closed still. Some of the food court is open, they are painting in the closed Boots. I could smell popcorn from the theatre. Many shops that were open are only partly stocked, and many are empty and look like new construction.

I have heard Villagio is insanely busy. Of course I have no desire to check it out myself but might venture to one of the other malls which I would assume will be less busy than they have been on weekends these last several months. Other than that thought, I don't really care to get into the politics of the rest of it. :)

I mean that the whole thing about the court case, finding people responsible and holding them accountable will be forgotten. Of course what happened and the lives lost will never be forgotten - but I don't find it hard to believe at all that given the opportunity, real justice and accountability will be forgotten. The fact that these people didn't turn up at court and (to my knowledge) did not instantly have arrest warrants issued as a result of their blatant disregard of the law and the justice system is not a good sign!

How about supporting the poor families who lost their children and loved ones in the fire! I'm all for new beginings and feel very sorry for the businesses/staff who have been affected through no fault of their own but you do realise that the court case in relation to the fire was postponed the other week due to 2 of the 3 parties being held accountable not turning up in court? I think that if Villagio opens and everyone supports it then the whole thing will just be forgotten and the chance of justice being done will turn from slim to non existent. At least while Villagio is closed people want to know what is being done. And those children and their famillies deserve an answer to how this all happened and who was responsible (and to know that the correct punishment has been dished out in the hope that it will deter future tragedies like this happening).
