I'm really fed up with paying top dollar for supposed 'top stylists' here to cut my hair and it's never done properly. Has anyone ever had any luck with going back to the salon & asking them to fix the problem?
I just feel that the salons here are taking the mick in charging QR250 for a cut & blowdry & I could cut it better myself, if only I could reach!

Ah, it was Paula I was thinking of. She made an absolute mess of my hair about 3 years ago & I never went back, so just wanted to make sure!

Not sure if Kim worked on cruise ships but Paula the girl who used to work there did. I use Leigh at this salon and have had no problems any time....expensive tho, to be expected in Doha. Friends have had good experience with Eric at 4 seasons. There is also a Canadian woman with salon in her home in Al Saad area who has cut a few friends of mine....they have all left so not sure if she is still here.

Is Kim at Riviera the blonde chatty young lady that used to work on the cruise ships?

Thanks, ladies - great tip, I will tuck it away! I've never been to Dubai, just thought there might be more variety in terms of hairdresser. :-) We are probably moving to Doha this summer, with teen girl and dog, so I'll be asking many more questions as we get closer... thanks in advance for your help!

Another fan of Kim's here, including her cutting (I have short, fairly layered hair)

Hi Rachel115 For blonde roots and highlights i go to Kim in Riveria Gardens always does a good job. Perhaps you could tell me where you go in Dubai as i am relocating there next month and also dont want to fly back just for a hairdresser!! My roots, cut and blowdry cost 555 riyals. If i have hightlights as well then it costs 615.

Has anyone found a stylist that does blonde color and/or highlights? I heard I might be out of luck... Is flying to Dubai every now and then for a root job an option? ;-)

I've been going to Kim at the british-run salon in Riviera Gardens. I've been very happy with her cuts, they get better as your hair grows out. It cost QR165 for a cut. I don't bother getting the blow dry (for a total of QR250) as I am always on my way to the gym afterwards.

Maple, I am ashamed to say I don't remember her name, but I was planning on going in the next few days and can get the name and number. I am very picky about layers, if they are done wrong my hair can end up looking like a mushroom (poofy on top with just straight long ends coming down) or just really choppy looking like my two year old did it. I have to have small layers throughout so it all blends and falls nicely, which I guess is something hard to find here. I had to outline exactly what I wanted and direct as she cut, but she listened and gave a few suggestions showing before she cut it and it all worked out :D

I am also looking for someone who's good with layers; I have thick hair and unless the layers are cut and blended well I look like a mess. I tried a Jordanian lady who runs a salon from her villa back in the summer and she did an excellent job but have not been able to get hold of her since then. Either she's fully booked or she's been out of the country. Tried two of the recommended salons from this forum and don't want to go back. @zookeeper, what is the name of the lady who cuts your hair and do you have a number please? Thanks

I've been here over 4 years and haven't yet met the stylist that makes me walk out of the salon feeling great about my hair, at best it's [i'>okay[/i'>. I need to find someone that's good with layering - this search will probably involve a plane trip!

To be honest, I have had the best luck with just going to the local beauty salon in a villa near my house! It doesn't look the fanciest on the outside (just a nice villa) but it is clean and well done on the inside. Cut/and dry for something like 70 QR! I have had WAY better cuts here than the more often recommended places you see on this forum. I don't even want to talk about some of the hair disasters I have had. I am very fussy about my haircut too, and would never recommend a place that would be bad. For the record I have straight long thick hair. The one I go to is Emerald Beauty Salon off the RA that leads to the US embassy or on the way to landmark. I think the RA on Al Makkaw St. Here are the google cordinates: 25.314177,51.46073 I haven't tried the coloring, but I was watching them do another lady, and it looked quite nice. I also get my eyebrows threaded there, and they always give a nice massage after :D

I hear ya too. I got my hair done when home for Christmas and now my roots are beginning to show and I am dreading trying someplace new. All the others I have tried so far haven't been great even with recommendations so won't be going back.

I hear you kimmc3. Have been checking the old threads myself since yesterday as I desperately need a good haircut and not sure where to go.
