Hello - I am a female Canadian Obstetrician considering a job offer at the new Sidra Medical site. Can anyone help me with the following questions ?
1. Is the family housing completed yet ?
2. Is it actually open, or just still a shell ?
3. If it is open, is anyone aware of any other Canadian female physicians working there ?
4. Which hospital do most expats currently go to for their deliveries ?
Thanks for your time in advance.
Dr. C

I had a telephone interview back in October 2014 - got moved to a different nursing job - got interviewed 29/01/15 on SKYPE for a paeds nursing position by two different departments and they said if I was successful they would choose which area I would go to - however they said that Sidra was not looking to be opened until March with the high chance of it being later than this :( it has been such a long process does any one have anymore information - does this sound right ????? as it has gone very quiet on here

drc - more importantly, have you looked at indemnity insurance locally, complaints procedure - security of exit permits, and how long you can be out of Canada without loosing your registration? Just things to think about.

EmNZ, you're not alone, it's a global issue!! Thanks RRTNICU Will have a look through it today. Where in the US are you based? It is comforting knowing that everyone else around the world is having these same struggles with HR not just our little contingent down here in NZ. edited by abby86 on 08/11/2014

Hi emnz.:) another forum is http://britishexpats.com/forum/. Very, very informative even for me in the USA. Just got an email from Cavendish Staffing. "I received was that internally there have been a few delays and the Recruitment Manager is currently on leave. I should have an update for you by the end of next week.":party::biggrin: I hope I hear something next week for sure. Patience. Thanks RRTNICU Will have a look through it today. Hello Ladies, I read through some posts and can appreciate your experiences with the waiting process for documents to get attested and to hear back from Sidra etc..The process is slow; mine started last November and finally flying out to Doha this Sunday! Orientation for Sidra is on Wednesday and Thursday. Yes, it is exciting but also a bit frightening too. I guess these emotions are typical for what we all will be going through. I will drop you a line to let you know how it goes as I can relate to needing/wanting more information during the relocation process. Wish me luck and I hope to meet you all soon ;) Pam Pam Hi Pam All the best! Its very exciting... Enjoy the weather... Cheers MJ

Hi BAMsMAM, I received my offer letter yesterday pleased with it, interviewed for the post of -CLINICAL NURSE LEADERS - Ambulatory Care Clinics (Pediatric, Obstetric, Gyne, or IVF). Things are now moving forward in a decent pace, hope you'll get yours as well ASAP. Excited!!!!! I am so happy for you! It is exciting news to know that a fellow CNL will be on the move soon. Out of curiosity do you know when they will want you to move? I will be inpatient, Heme/Onc/SCT. I hope that we get to meet one day. Are you on LinkedIn? May be we can connect like that. Congratulations!!!

Thank you abby86 for sharing your experience. I too have had the same experiences as abby86 has had. Though I am still waiting for my offer, I know that HR is currently working on it and should get it soon. Ladies, abby86 is completely right when she advices to have patience and to not leave your current jobs until you pretty much have EVERYTHING settled. As for me I continue to be very engaged in my current position as I know that the more experience and knowledge I gain, I will be a greater asset for Sidra. Don't loose the excitement and drive that has gotten you to the point that you are at, I know that in the end it will pay off for all of us. Good luck to all. Remember KEEP CALM and BE PATIENT :) BAMsMOM

Hi Ladies, I thought I'd share my experiences so far. This process is VERY long, and yes patience is required at every step of the way. I applied for this job in May, was interviewed in June and did not hear anything else until mid August when they told me I was successful. It then took several more weeks (maybe months) until I received an offer. After some negotiation, and more waiting, we came to an agreement and I accepted. It was then another 1-2 weeks (?sometime in Sept) until I received the list of what else was required, which I have finally completed. Involved requesting documents and then sending to foreign affairs/embassy for authentication (another lengthy process). Now it's the long wait for the visa to be processed, possibly another 6-8 weeks. So I would suggest to plan "as if" without doing anything official like selling a house or resigning until you get to the final stage of having your visa approved....and believe me there are PLENTY of hoops to jump through to get to that point. I am not there yet, but I believe once it is approved, they ask you when you are able to relocate, and are flexible if you need several weeks to organize your affairs. As for the hospital not being open, they are bringing people over now for the startup and planning that needs to be done, and I am in one of those positions. My manager has actually been there since earlier this year. As for staff positions, I am not sure if there will be actual work until the opening, something to ask about in the interview. Bottom line.....patience is a HUGE part of the process and things seem to happen at a snail's pace, but they do happen. edited by abby86 on 06/11/2014

Hello emnz. Good questions and patience seems to be the word. Yes when is Sidra opening? Last I heard March 2015? I am still waiting on the salary/employment agreement. On other forums I'm reading that they will hire us for January 2015 as the start up personnel. How much is any of this true? What's the scoop? I certainly can't quit and then find out it will be delayed. Yikes.;) Hi RRTNICU What other forums do you follow? A friend just moved to Dubai and suggested here which is great, but I am open to scoping out what other are saying else where. I have two friends who are planning on coming to Sidra from my ward at home in NZ and they are in the same boat, don't want to get locked into a contract if we are not being relocated until June or July next year.

Hi All, So I received my Employment Agreement overnight for a level three RN position. Is anyone else at this stage yet. It looks very stock standard and straight forward from what I have read so far. I am reluctant to sign it and go ahead with the process if RN's are 6 plus months out from relocating. Has anyone been given any indication of the time of their relocation. Initially in my interview back in May they said November which is almost on it's way out. Any estimates would be great. Thanks ladies... scary but exciting process we are going through.

Thanks BAMsMom for your advice. Hello wondrous1, All that I can say is be yourself and speak to the job that you are applying for. I'm sure you are experienced so you'll have plenty to reference to when asked about that experience. Hopefully you have done your research on Sidra and you can talk about how your goals align with those of Sidra. Relax and be honest. Hope this helps. BAMsMom
