My daughter and I are uk passport holders. My husband has a new job and we are travelling to the uk before his company starts our sponsorship. That means that we will be a few days over our 30 day visitor visa when we leave Abu Dhabi for the uk. Does anyone know what the fines are if any or where to find out. I thought there used to be a grace period of 10 days if you overstayed?

I have just seen an old post on here and it does say you get up to 40 days if you are from one of the countries that gets a visit visa on arrival Just to be safe call immigration as it was a very old post When I was doing the visa run in 2013, they didn't have a grace period for renewing the tourist visa status, I got fined 100 dhs per day. However, I have never overstayed on a cancelled residency visa and it may be that they allow a grace period for that. It costs 500dhs (plus the cost of insurance) to extend your visa in the residency & foreign affairs and it cost a less to travel to Al Ain by bus and pay the visa fees in Oman. You could go to the immigration office in the airport to enquire only (they do not do processing) because it may be quicker than going to the main one and should be open all hours.

I believe you only got 40 days and could renew if you were travelling to Hatta to do a visa run The rules changed for visit visas earlier this year however I am not aware of whether this includes the above ( Call Immigration) With regards to overstay it used to be AED200 for the first day then AED100 per day for every consecutive day

Hi... I think it depends on what visa status you are on currently... if you are on a tourist visa, there is no grace period and the fines are higher (I think 100dhs per day)... if you are on a cancelled residence visa, the fines are less... I can't remember what the airport immigration told me, something like AED10 to 50 dhs per day. I am not sure if you get a grace period if you are on a cancelled residence visa. The costs of travelling out of the country (to Al Ain) to extend your visa, or extending your visa in country will be far higher and more hassle than the daily fines, if you are only going to be over staying by a few days.
