British Ladies Society

Founded in 1993, the British Ladies Society provides British ladies living in Kuwait the opportunity to meet one another, form lasting friendships and learn more about the culture and customs of Kuwait.  The BLS also invites women from other countries to join the Society through the Associate Membership programme.

Under the patronage of  the wife of the British Ambassador to Kuwait , Mrs Maria Baker, the BLS offers a variety of activities to its members.  The BLS hosts weekly coffee mornings, Mums & Tots sessions, walking and bridge groups, monthly evening dinner meetings, and an active book club.  We organise excursions to places of interest around Kuwait as well as a variety of family-oriented events.   We hold special seasonal festivities such as the annual Christmas bazaar and dinner as well as many  events that vary from year to year.  Past events sponsored by the BLS include a Mothering Day luncheon, a family Easter egg hunt, a fashion show, black tie balls, and garden tea parties, to name but a few.

In addition, the Society provides its members with valuable resources such as a well-stocked (and very social) library, a Kuwait Information Guide Book complete with maps and a “yellow pages” directory, and member discounts to popular restaurants, shops and organisations around the country.

More than just a social group, the BLS is also actively involved with charitable causes both in Kuwait and UK.   Each year the membership nominates and votes for two charities, one in UK and one in Kuwait, to receive the profits from all the BLS activities throughout the year.

For 2011/2012, the BLS is supporting Hayat 4 Cancer in Kuwait and Help for Heroes in the UK.

For more information about our charitable giving please see our Charities Supported area.

The Society is currently thriving with a membership of around 300 women.

We welcome you to contact us if you are interested in joining in the fun!
