Each suburb has its own local Co-Op (Co-Operative Society) supermarket with a few other small shops around it which is good for local shopping.
The Sultan Centre is a very popular good quality supermarket and some of the larger branches are open 24 hours 7 days a week. Here you will find organic food, bakery, deli and a good range of fruit, vegetables and meat. Larger branches are at the Sharq souk, Al Kout, Hawally and Salmiya. The "City Centre" at Salmiya and Shuwaikh is another popular large supermarket with a full range of food, electricals, clothes etc. You will also find a full range of goods at Carrefour, Geant and Lulu.
Fish is abundant and there is a large fish market at the north end of the Sharq souk, which also sells fruit, vegetables and other goods at stalls adjoining the fish market.
There is a very good range of fruit and vegetables available from all over the world, some of which is grown locally or imported from nearby countries like Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Lebanon.
Most non- pork, non-alcoholic food can be found although there will be some things you will have to substitute for, or make-do without, from time to time as stock re-ordering isn't always up to scratch!
