West Bay Lagoon -questions?

Hi....
My dh really likes the West Bay Lagoons....the villas we've seen our a little out of our price range...but they are nice and spacious which is why he is considering them...
some questions i had for anyone living there...

-are there many children outside playing in the common areas (parks) etc?
-where do most of you go to the gym? The villa I have seen is in a cluster (compound of 12 more villas) but there is no gym/clubhouse
-are there any events that neighbours do together like halloween for example?
- do you feel its 'far' from anything? Like the malls? Or for where most afterschool activities etc are?

I personally prefered the Al Waab area...just liked the compound feel better there. And thought that my kids would have many kids to play with....and I myself would have neighbours to say hello to in the evenings ;-) since those compounds are more enclosed?
But the villas we have seen there are small in size for what we are looking for.

The school commute doesnt come into play because I currently want to change the school but havent found a place anywhere else...so we will cross that bridge when we come to it :-)
Hubby works in West Bay....so I think he would love having a small commute to his work!

Any input from families in the lagoons would be much appreciated...or al -waab too ? :-)

Many thanks!!! We did call the manager -but unfortunatley nothing is available! I do like one of the villas there (near the west gate) , but I spoke to someone on that compound and she gave me the indication that it is not a very friendly compound :-( I myself am fairly social, and enjoy having compound get togethers. So now im back to square 1. edited by Picklz on 27/10/2011 edited by Picklz on 27/10/2011

Hi there Well ive been living in West Bay for 3 years and West Bay Lagoon for a year. At the moment there seem to be a lot of FOR RENT signs up around West Bay Lagoon, its worth having a drive around. There are quite a few villas near by for rent over here at hte North Gate entrance. All the villas in our compound are full at the moment but people come and go very quickly in this country so im more than happy to pass on the compound managers details if you would like. For me its the greenery and being close to the beach as well as having kids that run really run around that will always keep me in West Bay Lagoon whilst im in Doha. Let me know if you'd like anymore info.

ummm...I'm not positive but I think it used to be held for Shell but what I have heard is that they're moving out...my friend is leaving in Dec. I know there are a bunch of teachers there in the flats they have but the villas were def renting a few weeks ago as someone posted on here to say the prices...def worth a look if in the price range :-)

Thanks ccdoha. I was actually on another forum and they had said that Golf Garden was being held for Shell employees only?

I agree 100% with Dottymum. I am in WB by the Four Seasons and I LOVE it here and could not imagine living in any other area I have been to. My friend lives next door to QIPCO at Golf Gardens and has positive things to say. We prefer to go to her compound for BBQ's because it is very relaxed with good people all around. Her teen can ride his bike to QIPCO and back as it is way off the main road and no traffic, etc. I love that the traffic is so light on this end except for the Arch r/a during the 'rush hour' commutes. I think it's nice to be able to pop over to Katara (Cultural Village) so easily and you can also do exercise classes at the intercon and Beverly Hills Tower. I know that golf gardens was renting, they are 4 bedroom and I have heard 18K and 21K. It seems high to me but in comparison, I think they are worth it. It would be a super easy commute to the new ACS (American School) or to ISL- International School of London. edited by ccdoha on 17/10/2011

Hi there Im living at West Bay Lagoon and i have 2 children. We love it here, the children often go outside to play in the park in the afternoons homework permitting! We are on a compound where there are a lot of children and the park is often very busy. I cant speak for other compounds in West Bay Lagoon but i find it very friendly here and there always seems to be someone around. Its also great for walking here, tennis and swimming in the lagoon, if youre brave enough!!! It is very green here, real grass and lots of it too!!! Very shaded parks with lots of trees. I personally wouldnt want to live anywhere else now that i live here! Our compound will be doing trick or treat for Halloween, cant speak for others though. There is traffic in the mornings but find me somewhere in Doha where there isnt! My school commute is about 25-30 minutes to DESS and to Sherborne about 35-45mins but that should be less soon once the Sherborne approach road is sorted out. Regarding gyms and classes, you can go to some of the hotels and pay per class, QIPCO compound has a pay per class boot camp thats good. There are some pay per class classes at the Pearl too. Fitness First is located at City Center and their month fee includes all the classes and use of the gym but you now have to pay for parking. I dont feel that West Bay Lagoon is far from anything at all, Landmark is only 10 mins in one direction and City Center in the other, the new Lagoona Mall is 2 minutes away and a Carrefour is opening up there shortly. Only been in to this mall once and there were some shops open and lots more opening soon. The Pearl has an abundance of restaurants and high end shops. I really dont know Al Waab area so cant really make any comments about the area but it takes about 20-25mins to reach Villagio from here in non peak traffic. Hope this helps, please feel free to ask any more questions that you may have.
