Hi Everyone!
There is a chance we're gonna be moving to Doha from Dubai in the next few months. Just want to ask is there organic food sold anywhere in Doha? I mean veggies, meat and grains?
TIA

You're welcome, Tanya! Hope your move goes smoothly. I wish we had an Organics shop here like you have in Dubai- love that shop! I thought of one more thing to mention- whenever I'm in Dubai, I stock up on my supplements at Organics. I would suggest you do the same if you like high-quality supplements like the ones sold at Organics. There are plenty of places which stock vitamins and minerals, like the GNC, Boots and other chemists, but I've found it difficult to buy high-quality probiotics, fish oil and alkalizing drops here. HTH!

Thank you Dsertdiva and everyone! `Ok then its not that bad, you see here in Dubai we're really spoilt with choices, and the prices for organic food are often on par if not lower than those of the regular groceries. Thanks for the info, really appreciated! and i'll come back with more questions soon t

Forgot to mention Spinney's.. there are two outlets, one in The Mall (near airport) and one at The Pearl. I haven't been to the one at The Pearl yet as it's relatively new. Spinney's doesn't stock much organic produce- only apples and leeks at the moment. They used to stock organic USA beef, but no longer carry it. They mostly have organic tinned goods, grains, sauces, frozen veg. They have a few organic dairy items (cheese, yogurt). Basically they stock the same organic brands and products which MegaMart stocks.

I saw frozen organic meat at Megamart a while ago, pretty expensive though.

I eat almost exclusively organic (as much as possible given what's available), and as the others have pointed out, it's a pricey habit, but I needed to do it for health reasons. Dean & Deluca in the Villaggio Mall now has an organic fruit & veg selection- pretty decent selection compared to the other shops which carry organic fruit & veg. Similar pricing to MegaMart. I've also heard that they sell organic chicken, but I've never purchased it as I don't eat meat. They sometimes sell organic bread, imported from Belgium, so stock up on it if you see it. They sometimes sell organic yogurt too, and you can find some other organic dry goods like pasta, rice. If their organic bread is unavailable, head over to Pain Quotidien, which is located in the same mall, a short walk from D&D. I tend to shop mostly at MegaMart (aka MegaBucks) as they have the best organic selection (and that's not saying much!). As previously mentioned, MegaMart has organic fruit & veg, and they also sell organic dairy and grains. You can buy organic tinned foods (beans, soups, stock, etc.), flours, pastas, grains, yogurt, milk, cheese, juice, museli, sauces, syrups, sodas, eggs, etc. They also have some organic frozen items by Amy's Organics, an American brand, and some packs of frozen organic veg. Never seen organic meat, but again I'm not looking for it. I have never seen organic bread either, which is why I buy bread from D&D when available. Also, as mentioned, Carrefour sells a small selection of organic grains, pastas, and some other products- very small, but it's cheaper to buy organic quinoa or barley here than at MegaMart. I occasionally shop at LuLu's too, and they have a smaller selection than MegaMart, but sometimes you can get some different products. I've tried the Greenbox's organic boxes, but I decided that it was preferable (and cheaper) to pick out which fruits and vegetables I wanted to eat instead of getting a 4 kg box of the same fruits and vegetables week after week (or every two weeks). You cannot self-select your fruits and veg with the Greenbox- you get a surprise box based on whatever is available/in season. My advice-- in part due to the selection and in part due to the cost- is to decide what you absolutely want to eat organic and what can slide.. for instance, some fruits and vegetables where you peel the skin (bananas, avocados) are generally less toxic than fruits and vegetables like grapes, peppers/capsicums, etc. Unfortunately, I have yet to see organic tomatoes or bell peppers (capsicums) here, so you will have to do without and then choose organic with other fruits and veg that you regularly consume. HTH! Good luck with your move... DD

Sorry I didn't explain the greenbox thing very well in my post - the organic, local produce is available now (over the winter), but for the rest of the year they just offer imported, high-quality (but NOT organic) veg from Belgium.

To give you an idea of the cost, I paid QR 40 for an organic cucumber in C4 a few weeks ago... Locally/Regionally grown ones sell for QR 6-7/kg.

yes, the Megamart in the Centre consistently has Organic milk from the US -- it's about 40-45 riyals for a half gallon..... the Megamart Express has some organic milk from the UK, but i think it's long life or something - I don't care for it. Megamart also has some organic fruits and vegetables - again, pricey.

Yeah, kind of... Although I hardly ever buy any because of the cost and lack of availability and I was obsessed with buying organic wherever possible in the UK. What you can get: Veggies: there is a small organic section in Lulu selling European organic veg, but they are way overpriced eg £10 for a bag of spinach . Also during the winter, Greenbox.me offers locally grown organic veg. For the rest of the year they offer European imports (not organic but v high quality) Dry goods: Carrefour has its Bio brand and most supermarkets carry a few other organic bits eg Dorset Cereals Eggs: usually imported European organics available. What you can't get (to the best of my knowledge): Meat Milk
