my dad tried to send me a parcel from SA not so long ago. the woman at the post office insisted that qatar did not exist. that as she personally had never heard of it, it couldnt possibly be a country. she refused to look it up. so my poor old dad went home, got an old atlas went back to the post office and showed her! she eventually sent the parcel for him...........

I can second that: the post between here and the UK (and France) is hopeless, and I have no idea whose fault it is. Many of our Christmas cards are STILL turning up (both those posted by, and to, us); last year a few cards posted from the UK to us here went via Zambia for some reason; and it doesn't matter where they're going, but cheques ALWAYS get lost. Be warned! But Safiya, if there was a PO Box No on the envelope, it should have gone directly to the post office for you to collect, surely! But, as they say, TID ... :(

I would imagine that it was sent somewhere else in the Arab world and should have been redirected to Doha but instead was sent back. One of my packages arrived from Spain v late and from the envelope had apparently been via South Korea!

I live in Dubai, and the UK Inland Revenue keep sending my mail to Saudi Arabia, even though my address with them clearly states Dubai, UAE!!! edited by loube on 15/03/2012

Short answer is yes, that's what they should do! ;) Frustrating isn't it? I had someone tell me they used to put a map on the mail, so the delivery person would know where to do. Inevitably, with the construction, that too will not work as roads open and close more than my wallet does! Too funny though, sorry for your frustration, but you made ME laugh.

Sigh, sometimes its enough to tear your hair out isn't it? Our family in NZ put together a photo calendar every year for us and post it over. They have the correct address PO Box ***, at the *** PO, Doha, Qatar, and they've sent birthday cards etc over before that have arrived safely. But this time the calendar's been returned to NZ, my niece says the envelope has Arabic writing on it so they know it got here at some point. There's a big red circle around the words 'Doha' and 'Qatar' and someone's written on the envelope 'insufficient address'. I mean how much more specific can you be with 'Doha' and 'Qatar'? Should they have written, "drive along the Ring Road until you get to the third Indian takeaway place on the right, do a u-turn, keep left then turn right at the hardware shop, go through the next roundabout, straight straight then turn left at the mosque, turn right at the pile of stones and deliver it to the house with the orange door...."? Aaagh. edited by Safiya Dafiya on 15/03/2012
