Hello ladies!

I am very frustrated and really hope you could help me with your advices. So here is our deal:

We are living in Qatar but supposed to relocate to Abu Dhabi in January which was postponed. So I applied to all the Abu Dhabi schools kinda late (February). We didn't have any luck but only Repton offered my girl a place (she will be in FS2). Unfortunately, my husband's company isn't paying for school so Repton is way out of our budget but if we won't be able to find any cheaper school then for 1 year we could afford Repton.

Of course in February or March I applied to this new opening Cambridge International School (plus we paid 500 AED for the registration). I've sent them also few emails but they didn't reply. Then out of blue there are sending me Offer Letter on 15th of June saying that we have to sign the Offer and pay 2500 AED for reservation a seat and send them within 7 days. So we are happy and paying next day and sending them the signed copy.

Then again silence and on 18th of June email from school saying that they are having final assestment on 20th and if you are missing it then ur child won't get a place. We answered immidiately saying that we are on vacations in Egypt right now and its impossible to attend assesment in such a short notice.

And now again no answer from them. My husband is moving after 2 weeks or less, then when my visa will be ready i will move with my daughter.

What should I do? When my husband will come to AD he will search for a house. We were planning to live in Al Reef. But if the Cambridge International is not gonna take my kid, then we can't stay in Al Reef (coz if we will use our "plan B" Repton, then we need to live in Al Reem which I like, by the way)

they usually do half days for the smaller ones. well in bsak they do, they go in for half days etc to gradually get them used to full days, but you will find that the majority of the kids at nursery do full days at nursery so its no different.

I will mail you those pics. I received a mail today with regards to another meeting tomorrow but it's a bit short notice for me. Hopefully we will be able to buy the uniforms before school starts :\: My son will also start FS2 and they said that they are planning a staggered start for the little ones. So they might have half the class start from 8-10am and then the other half from 10-12pm so I am sure closer to the time we will receive all the info through e-mail. I am just keeping my eye on the mails coming through. Good luck with your move and house hunting.

also i believe that they try to help expats ie people coming from other gcc countries, because you are already in expat system, know the systems, and the schooling etc, compared to brand new people from the uk etc. Thank you so much for your help. As usually you are very helpful!

I have a picture or 2 if you want me to mail it to you. I also see there is a lot of development residential wise near the school. That might also be a option for you guys with regards to a place to stay. Let me know if I can do some follow up from this side for you. Greetings Thanks for your reply. I've tried to contact the school today via Skype and they couldn't tell me anything. But then I decided to write them email and they replied saying my daughter is accepted to FS2. It would be great if you could send me that pics! My email is notbuddy a-t gmail.com Do you know what is next? I mean when we have to buy uniform and paid for the first semester etc?

My son will also start with the new GEMS school in September. Do not stress about your e-mails you are getting. They send them to all on their mailing list. The 2500 is fully refundable if you do not take the place but if you do it comes off your annual fee. In a meeting I attended the principle did mention that they want to assess all children for their records. I took my son for the assessment but mostly to meet the head teacher. They offered him a place on his last report card I submitted and I am sure that is what happened with your child. They are busy with site meetings everyday and I do go check up on the building when I can. All looks good. I have a picture or 2 if you want me to mail it to you. I also see there is a lot of development residential wise near the school. That might also be a option for you guys with regards to a place to stay. Let me know if I can do some follow up from this side for you. Greetings

schools are on hols now, so they may not even have staff on the site, as they are still building sites, but if you cannot get in touch with gems cambridge then try talking to their sister schools either at gems world academy in kca or cambridge high school in mussafah. again teaching staff will not be there but nearer the end of the hols they will be especially when the exam results come out which is middle of august etc.

But if the Cambridge International is not gonna take my kid, then we can't stay in Al Reef (coz if we will use our "plan B" Repton, then we need to live in Al Reem which I like, by the way) gems cambridge will go ahead, i see the building is up etc and gems has many schools here. its a profit sch hence why they are charging you a reservation seat which i believe they are not allowed to, only the 500dhs for registration etc, you can check with adnec about the 2500. gems runs lots of schs in dubai where the rules are different but again the 500dhs is the price. there is also a gems winchester in an old school meant to be coming on line in september too. have you looked at reach british school, its not far away from cambridge international, they are both opposite mafraq hotel etc. repton is always going to be one of the most expensive schools as they are a profit sch, they are using the uk's name and so they charge more but will have less in the classes etc. unfortunately the lower years are always over subscribed. if you went with repton you could still live in al reef its easy enough to commute, a lot of people live in al reef and commute to brighton college and thats at khalifa park, same sort of school. if they refuse you a place and you have paid up 2500 dont worry they cannot take that money from you it must be refundable, talk to adnec, all they are allowed to take from you is 500dhs registration until you actually take up the place etc. because this is a new sch, same with repton, they dont even know when they will open on time etc, in all the local advertisements just recently they have all added disclaimers on the bottom, but this happens with new schools, and they usually just open a few weeks later, and have to make up the days at a later time etc. if you are from one of the countries that allow you visit visa then you can come over at any time, and do a visa run etc until the proper residence visa is done. have you looked at the new apartments/villas in baniyas right next door to the mall, be careful tho, that all the other housing in baniyas etc is local housing and is not allowed to rent to expats, but the new housing there may be different. also look at kcb which is just across the road from both new schools, reach british and gems cambridge. also if you are not sure which one look at mbz then again its close to reach/gems and is also commutable to reem etc. there is also cranleigh opening this year too on saadiyat.
