Hello ladies. We have 2 children who have just started their school year here in the US, one in first grade and the other in third. My husband has just been offered a job in Abu Dhabi and I am frantically researching schools for the kids to start in the January 2015 semester. All of the schools require entrance tests and interviews and we hadn't planned to take the kids to Abu Dhabi until just before school starts in January. My husband and I are going out in 2 weeks to look at schools and housing - should we spend the extra $3000 to take the kids with us to take these tests and do the interviews then? Has anyone had success doing these things from their home country? Also I have found a few schools that sound really good but was wondering if there are any schools to stay away from for bullying, lazy teaching etc. It seems like the academic standard is excellent at all of them. Anyway, I am very worried they won't have a school to go to in January because it's so hard to do this process from here. Please help! Thank you!

I agree - contact the school admissions team directly. Plenty of schools are happy for the entrance exams to be taken from home then scanned and emailed in.

Begin by contacting a few different schools in Abu Dhabi and see what their policy is ... lots of people manage to take the exam online or mail school reports. This is a link to the GEMS American school in Abu Dhabi - www.gemsaa-abudhabi.com You are coming at a good time because a lot of new schools are opening this year and you will have a much easier time getting a spot than previous years.
