Hi
MY kids are coming from a school whose academic year is Jan-Dec. My kids are starting in grade7 and 10 in January. When will be the best time for them to start in a school here considering the school year starts september, without them having to have to repeat a grade or fall behind by a year?

You will also find that ADEC have a rather strict age-grade policy (applies to both government and private shcools - local and international), which you can overcome if you make an application, with supporting evidence in writing to them. I did this and managed to get my DD do into an appropriate grade for her ability rather than her age. Also, my DD started mid academic year and I had a terrible time finding a school which had a place for her. You will need to really hunt around so be prepared. Most schools have their numbers full from the beginning of the academic year and unless someone leaves, there is no space. Definitely, you would be looking at either a British or Australian curriculum only. The Pakistani International schools, of which there are many across the UAE, follow the sub continental academic year and start in March or April rather than September, I believe. edited by mrsb. on 09/12/2014
