I am currently on another compound where allot of QR pilots live and we are looking to move out. It's 18000Qr per month and it's really nice. Email me for details. We're only moving because we're going to Dubai. Xx

nole & Dan Lou Thank you very much to both of. I am still in the UK so I can only try to get as much information as I could from the internet. My husband is moving end of Oct and I will join him mid of Dec and I am hoping I can sort the accomodation thing before that time. I will probably send a question to Sherborne mums asking if they could recommend any place near Sherborne. Thanks again

Most of the flats/villas are given to people in company accommodation, but I do know a few people in some that are not. I believe they pay around 8500/9000 for a 2 bedroom. I am not sure if any of the larger 3 bedrooms are for rent though. They do have really nice villas for rent as well with your own private small pool which I believe run right around 18,000-20,000. The compound is big, but it has every amenity you could want so it depends on what is more important to you. If you have kids, it is a great place to live since almost everyone it seems has kids there as well and they set up a lot of activities for them. Sherborne like Dan Lou said is not close, I know a few people who actually moved out of Ain Khalid Gate to a compound closer to Sherborne since their kids went there. (sorry, can't think of the name of the compound they moved to) After Eid is over, if you are here drive into it and talk to the administration office. They should be able to tell you what is available.

Hi Disa, no it's not near Sherborne. But it will also depend where your DH works, perhaps it might be equidistant between school and work and you're happy to do a bit of driving in the morning? Problem is school starts early in the morning, but so does work so the morning traffic is not fun. The best bet is to live as close to school as you can but of course without DH travelling too much too! Do you use Google maps? I find that invaluable to see routes and distances. I'm not sure where Sherborne kids mostly live but perhaps you could start a new thread on that? Regarding Ain Khaled Gate, most people I know there are in company accommodation so I don't know prices, but you'd probably need to have a look to see if it was your thing in any case. You should know it's a really big compound, and with that comes a lot of cars and a lot of traffic.... Are you here already? Perhaps you can drive around a bit? I know it's difficult in the heat and with the kids but if you know the area you want, you're half way there! Good luck, keep asking questions as you need :)

Hi all, sorry for asking again.. but could someone here answer my previous question about this compound. I make phone calls to compounds and estate agencies almost everyday to sort our accomodation out but obviously it's a struggle to get an answer during Ramadan!!! thanks

Hello, As usual this site is always helpful to me, I check it almost everyday nowadays as we will be moving in few months. I've heard a lot about Ain Khalid Gate and what I like about it that everybody saying it's quite good for children (we have 7yr & 1yr).. I would be grateful if you could tell me what are the prices like!!? Would we be able to get a small villa or a flat for 12,000 - 15,000 ?? Also my son is going to be in Sherborne school, is this compound anywhere closed to this school?? many thanks

@Maite The small apt is a sore to my eye :( One of the reasons to get pregnant is to get the big one :D haha

As for driving, any amount of driving experience will leave you bewildered on the roads here. But the roads, landcruisers and the mayhem grows on to you :) There are good driving schools in case you want to learn driving else just get your bearings right for the roundabouts (in case you come from a place which has none like I did) and you are good to go !

Hi Kelbucko, My husband is a 320FO and we live in Ain Khalid Gate in a 3 bedroom apartment. I do have pictures, just one warning my flat is the smallest one because we dont have children...but more or less you can have a pretty good idea! Feel free to email me and I can send you the pics and info, I've been living here for 3 years... [i'>Edited to remove the email...[/i'> edited by Maite on 02/08/2011

@ kelbucko, Ain Khalid is a great compound if you have kids ! Infact quite a few friends of mine moved out coz they thought it was flooded with kids. I stay in Ain Khalid and have pictures of the apt and around to share.. Send in your email id so that I can share them with you. There is a small grocery store which caters to almost all the things you would need on an urgent basis and they home deliver :))) We also have the Qatar Airways preferred laundry which your husband will totally love ! I know friends in other compounds who have to drive out to give and collect their uniforms ! Like Sam mentioned, there is Eldertree nursery, Costa Coffee, excellent gym with trainers, 2 swimming pools again with a swim instructor available. This summer they had plethora of activities for children (music, swimming, aerobics, etc) Villagio Mall, Hyatt plaza Mall, Aspire Park, hypermarkets, Doha Montessori school, Park House school, etc are all just 5-10mins drive away… All in all, it is a great compound ! Welcome Dear :) edited by Butterfingers on 01/08/2011

Hi Kelbucko, I am afraid I do not have any pics of the apartments but have been in them and they are okay. I will ask a friend to see if she has any pics for you! There is a Nursery/Kindergarten called Eldertree on the compound where you could enroll your 3 year old obviously if they have a space. It is a large compound with a small shop on, a Costa Coffee etc and small playgrounds for the children. Villaggio Mall is about a 5/10 minute drive depending on how busy traffic is from AKG which has a large Carrefour Supermarket. Hope that helps a little Sam x

Hi, My husband has accepted a job with QR airways and we would be getting a 3 bed apt, I am struggling to find any pictures of what they are like, would anyone be willing to email them to me/describe them? With a gym onsite are there creche facilities? And what are the costs? I have a soon to be 3 yr old and am due with another boy early October. What other facilities are in the nearby area? Ie. Shops/parks/nursery. Is it really hard to learn to drive? Thanks in advance
