right. well, after a very interesting 40 minutes of trying to use a hair straightener and managing to burn my big toe, i am conceeding defeat. thankfully they were on loan and i havent forked out the 100 quid i was planning on!

i believe there is a miracle item called the Babyliss Big Hair.

does anyone have one of these? and if so, can i purchase one here?

thanks in advance ladies. i really really have to come up with something soon as i dont have 40 minutes in the moring to make my hair presentable and i start work in a matter of days!!

ps, my hair is not naturally straight, tends to wavy and frizzy, it is fine but there is loads of it, and its in a sort of bob, 2 or 3 inches off my shoulders.

I don't know about Babyliss or flat irons but I use a Rowenta rotating brush with hot hair that comes with 2 sizes of brushes - it smooths the hair and (if desired) gives it a little turn under at the bottom (or out). Bought it at Carrefour - my hair is not like yours so you might want to look at it carefully before buying.

thanks ladies for the input, much appreciated :-) still dont know what to do! although, given that i am unable to buy either item here in doha, i suspect that i will just wake up extra early for the first week and make a huge effort, and then, once ive lulled everyone in the office into a false sense of security, will start coming in with less and less manicured hair until no one can remember that i ever made an effort in the first place!

I got the babyliss big volume brush from the UK, I find it really good once you get used to it, look at the video tutorials on youtube. I have GHD's and couldn't live without them. Good luck.

@ccdoha...I disagree about the big plates, I have them and they are really easy to use and save time provided you have longer hair BUT won't work with bangs. I would say you have to have at least shoulder length hair to use them comfortably.

Oh yes, def difference. I am sure that the others don't get to the same heat and then there are the ionic plates... CHI was what I used in the USA and they are just as good as GHD in UK and the rest of the world :) Plus - don't forget a good heat styling spray! Besides the GHD spray, I bought the Toni&Guy label M in London last visit and I like it. Treat yourself... http://www.ghdhair.com/ghd-iv-styler-collection/ghd-iv-styler I wouldn't go for the one with the bigger plates as they are harder to manoeuvre for us - non professional hair stylers!

I didnt get any emails!! Same address for you? I'll check my junkmail, but if you have the same address I doubt they'd be there. Weird! I'll send you something in a bit. It totally matters which straightener you use. I've had others in the past - they weren't disastrous (no burnt toes...) but I got a ghd last year and man-o-man!!! If I was still in your 'hood I'd offer you mine to try, but we moved a few weeks ago - not too far, but not up the block anymore. :(

wait. so it matters which hair straighteners you try? because i borrowed some to try out, with the idea that i would buy the GHDs, but the ones i borrowed are not GHDs. i couldnt get my hair to do anything with them! i just ended up with bits all frizzy and other bits with kinks in! am i hair straightener deficient? do i not have some sort of elusive hair straightening gene? i thought, how hard can it be? rough dried my hair and then set to. clearly, i am a moron! and if anyone is interested, neither boots nor C4 sell the Babyliss Big Hair. RachelA!!!!! where have you beeeeen? i have been emailing you and everything. stopped at christmas cos i thought you might be worried i was stalking you.

@ Newbie , It depends on the particular straightener you have . Some models can be used on wet hair which obviously saves a lot of time .

I also have the GHD straightener and it is wonderful. You also need a good heat resistance spray, the GHD one is nice or the CHI oil is also nice if you can find it. You can also get those straightening treatments, they do one at the Sheraton, Four Seasons and Medical Spa in Villagio should still have the Kerastase keratin treatment. I don't know if they still do the one I had at Glow as they took the product off the market (had to change the mix, too much formaldehyde) They really help but they don't last long enough, although worth it for summer here!

GHD is a miracle! I have two, a smaller one for my bangs and a bigger one for the rest of my hair. Pricey but worth it. Hoobs, are you sure it can be used on wet hair? They don't mention anything about it on the website.

You should get the GHD . Its not cheap but its very easy to use , very effective and will not fry your hair . You can also use it when your hair is still wet which is a plus .

Sorry I have no answer but just wanted to let you know that your description of your battle left this EW laughing! And while I'm here I'll add that my straightener has changed my morning hair routine from 30 to 5 minutes! Oh and great to hear that you're finally starting back to work...
