Can anyone please tell me where to get the gas cylinders and regulators for a Beefeater barbeque, and the cost, if possible, for getting a cylinder and also for refilling it. Thanks.

The gas cylinders at Woqod are different than the ones you get in town or on the back of the trucks -- they are made of a different material that is much lighter - I suppose that's why they are so much more expensive. We switched over a year or so ago because they are lighter, Woqod is always in stock (and close to the house) and the canisters look like they're in better shape... some of those blue metal ones that we had looked like they had more rust than metal!

When we got here we bought our gas cylinders for QR25 each (with QR15 refill cost) and then about a year or two back they seemed to jack the price up out of sight...not quite sure why or if its only the big service stations doing that. You'll see trucks going around with cylinders on the back - grab the number of one of those and I bet you'll find them heaps cheaper. Re them being exposed to the heat - ours sit outside in the middle of summer fully exposed to the heat and sun and have done for years with no problems. I wouldn't worry about that - they are pretty secure - otherwise half of Doha would be blowing up in the middle of August each year! :)

Thank you ladies...I will potter on down to woqod to find out...Qr375 seems a bit steep for the gas cylinder...wonder if this is a deposit which you can get back when you return the cylinder for good?

A bit off the subject....DH wants to get a gas BBQ but I'm hesitant because I'm worried that the gas cylinder exposed to Doha heat might be risky i.e. explode?! I've never heard this happening before but I just don't trust companies here. Any input on this ladies?

We saw some gas cyclinders at Woqod petrol station (the one close to Dahl Al Hammam R/A)over the weekend and enquired as we plan to get a gas BBQ soon. It costs QR 375 to get a new cyclinder and each time after it costs QR 15 for a refill. As we were driving away I did notice that they seem to have two sizes but this is what we were told. Hope that helps.

There is a "shop" in Mansoura - tell him what you need - if you have an Arabic or Hindi speaker with you (the handy guy in my apartment block helps me) that will help exponentially. Alternatively, if you can take the BBQ with you to show him what you want exactly. I have a gas stove, my interpreter brought the gas guy to my home and made sure everything was installed correctly. If you want my guy's name and number (he speaks English) to help with the initial process (once you're hooked up you can get the propane cannister refilled easily) I can give you that.
