As I understand it - If you are a govt employee, then you fall under the Human Resources Law, not the Labor Law, and medical is provided - (HR Law, Article 158)

To follow on what JillMV has said, my employer provides private insurance and so do not pay for or organize our Hamad cards. We opt to have them in addition to the private insurance, so have sorted it (and paid for it) on our own.

as far as I have been able to tell, it is not in the labor law that employers need to provide health insurance or the hamad health card. I think all employers SHOULD provide a minimum of the Hamad Health Card, but working with a lot of contractors whose employers do not provide them this, I have checked with a bunch of HR directors and none have been able to find any sort of mandate requiring it.... Also, if your employer provides other insurance, they would not feel obliged to provide the HMC card. Of course if your specifc contract specifies it, then great, but otherwise, it's only 100 riyals a year...

lalala - mine expired this month and it cost 100QR each to renew it but I explained to DH that since healthcare is part of the contract, the company should be responsible for it !??!? SO he took the cards in Mon and got them back on Tues. We didn't get "new" ones, they just said they had been renewed! Don't forget the electric bill - they def need that to "assign" the health centre :) <em>edited by ccdoha on 25/01/2012</em>

Your employer should do this for you (and pay for the 100qr each) I should think as I am sure your contract includes health care which you need the card to access! We gave all this stuff to the pro along with the passport photos and he took care of it. <em>edited by ccdoha on 25/01/2012</em>

Very easy..... just find your closest Hamad health centre/ clinic (Tall green lollipop sign outside) and take the following: Copy of each RP, copy of your electricity account, QR100 per card. You will fill in a basic form & be issued with temp cards , receive actual cards after a month or so. Best to go to clinic early (7 am) when they open to avoid queues.

Hi, I was reading about this in FAQ section of EWQ site the other day, the guidance there seems quite comprehensive,.but neither my husband or I have yet got health card, so can't comment from experience.
