iMac in Qatar - buying advice

Hi...

I'm thinking of changing over to a Mac and have a few questions. Wonder if any of you ladies have bought an iMac since you've been here?

If so, do you know if the software spec is the same as you'd get in the UK or US? For instance, I hear with iPhone 4s bought here, there is no FaceTime. Wondered if there were any similar issues with iMacs.

The price in the Virgin store in Villagio was around the same I'd have paid in the UK, albeit way more than the States but nervous to use shop & ship for something so expensive. Anyone know other stores it might be cheaper in?

Thanks in advance!
Tracy

51 east carries apple products. I haven't looked so much in the City Centre store but the one by Al Jarir Bookstore, by the Honda dealer has everything.

Hi Ladies - finally made the change from Windows to Imac about 7 months ago. Brilliant computer and would never go back to the former. Make the change and you won't be unhappy for sure.

Thanks ladies, appreciate the advice! I have an iPhone 4 purchased from Apple in the UK before we moved here and it works fine on facetime with Virgin Qtel just had heard rumours that some won't work so perhaps is hit and miss. Since I don't know anyone in the US to ship it on to me I think I'll go ahead and get it here. Maybe having arabic on the keyboard will help my language come on. Or not!

Hello, I bought my Macbook overseas before I moved here. Just wanted to let you know that Facetime works on my Macbook Pro. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to connect, but eventually it always does. Great programme. Love it. It's made a huge difference in how I communicate with family back home.

Well since living here I have bought 2 MacBooks, 1 in the US (via Shop and Ship) and one here. There are no differences other than the one from here having Arabic as well as English on the keyboard. Software-wise they are identical. The face time issue on the iPhone is apparently dictated by Qtel from what I understand. I found Carrefour to have the best price for the MacBook by a few hundred QR, but I don't know if they sell Apple desktops. I would definitely check out iSpot. They have a branch in City Center, and I think one or two others but I'm not sure where. And also Office One (is that the name? doesn't sound right now that I look at it...) by the Midmac r/a. If buying in the US isn't an option, I'd say get it here. BTW Apple in the US won't ship to the US Shop and Ship address. At least they wouldn't a few years ago. They recognize it as a "freight forwarding" address and it interferes with their international authorized resellers agreement. FYI... I am a total Mac fan. Don't think you'll regret the move one bit!
