The water may very well be potable and palatable at the source. However, given construction and inspection standards, quality of materials used, and often open holding tanks (dust is the least of contaminants - try dead insects birds or small mammels) I'll buy bottled water thankyou

As for me, I don't drink the tap water. But I wonder if anyone did a research about the quality and the composition of the bottles water here! because "bottled" doesn't mean "good" and seeing the low price of the bottles water I doubt that it is of high quality. Does anyone know anything about this? i actually buy RAYYAN water for my dispenser but many people prefer Nestle water. Allthough anybody is able to explain why Nestle is better....

Thanks for the link MaryCatherine, already did some research online, but will certainly check out the one you bought. So far my husband is reporting that his skin is actually better in Doha than here in Portugal. Guess I was right to always be a little suspicious about the water here?!?

I don't use it for soup, or in dishes where I'm going to eat it. But I've been boiling things such as pasta or veggies in it for over a decade, and we never get sick.

Kimmc3 - you might want to try a water filter for the shower head (and/or tub) to try and alleviate your skin issues. The tap water here (besides the holding tank issues) is desalinated but not to the equivalent of the type of water we get from the tap at home. Since I bought mine online my hair has been less brittle and behaves more like it does when I leave here. There is a brand Blu available here, but I thought it was overpriced and bought mine through Amazon. Thanks MaryCatherine, I'll have a look on Amazon, the scratching is getting embarrassing for us!

In the 2 years we were in Doha we used the tap water for everything including cleaning teeth. Didn't drink it though as it didn't taste good. I did find that I was itchy after showers and baths though and my hair was very dry after washing. Have the same issues when I go down south mind you. Nothing beats good soft Scottish water. :)

Thanks for all the replies. So it´s basically like I handle it here in Portugal. Also don´t like using tap water for the kettle. Thanks DebK for the info on the bottled water getting delivered to your home, that sure is a lot more convenient.

Same as eveyone else I think. I use tap water for cooking but use the bottled water for the kettel as I think the tea tastes better (but that may be all in my head!)

I used tap water for cooking for 7 years without any ill effects (boiled of course) but then I AM a particularly strong, healthy Scottish person!

Just an FYI, it really isn't a hassle to get bottled water here and it is relatively inexpensive. There are a variety of different companies (with a varied price range) that will deliver water right to your door weekly. So the only hassle is remembering to put the empty bottle outside the door with the coupon attached. We also use tap water for cooking with no issues and have for 3 1/2 years. However, when making my tea I prefer to use bottled water. I would however not drink the tap water. I know of some people who the top of their water storage units have not been secured properly and they have later discovered cats in their water tank.

We also don't drink from the tap but do use boiled (kettle) water for cooking & have done this for 8+ years. The only problem we have is that myself, hubby & son have various parts of the body with very persistent itchy skin, which clears up as soon as we are away from here. We presume this is from the bath/shower water here.

A few years ago a friend of mine did research and found that tap water was considered to be safe drinking water. The problem is that most water is stored in tanks, and so the cleanliness of the water depends on the cleanliness of the tanks. Personally I don't drink it from the tap, but I definitely cook with it! Have been doing it for years, and don't have any horror stories to tell.

Hello ladies, my husband is already in Qatar and the wife of one of his colleagues told him that it isn't safe to use tap water for cooking. Is that true? How do you ladies deal with it? It seems like a big hassle to get bootled water for everything. Really interested to hear what your opinion is on this.
