Hi,

I am just wondering if anyone here have moved their kids from Doha College to ASD or from ASD to Doha College, if there is, would you mind sharing your reasons and experience? I have my child in one school and in the waiting list of another, there is possibility of a place coming. I do realise that maybe that the place may stay just as a possibility but if by any chance a decision have to be made, I would want to consider everything. My kid has been in british and american curriculum before, so we don't mind either. Hopefully, there is someone in the forum who can share their experience.

Tliup some schools didn't leave any child on waiting list more than one year actually if he didn't find place u should apply the following year doha college and ASD leave them for two years for doha college u should send update report or he won't be considered for the next year I'm not sure about ASD but I think sending updates all the time they will know u r interested both schools has corporate spinster seats which means it's easier for them to find seat what I think if your child goes to school which u don't like u will like to leave on the waiting list maybe schools knows that her child goes to a good school so it will be their own decision to accept him or look at some one who is not in the country yet

Pokemon23 - I think we all know, as parents, the extreme frustration and stress we all felt when applying to schools here in Doha. My family has moved all over the world and we have never encountered wait lists like we've seen in Doha. It's an incredibly frustrating and stressful experience for everyone. All I was trying to say is you are in a very fortunate situation where your child is either at Doha College or ASD - two of the top schools in Doha. You can't get much better. So, if you have your child enrolled at one and on a wait list at another, you are indeed keeping another child (who might not even be in Doha yet) out of school. I don't know what the solution is. I realize many parents come here, take the first spot they get at a school, and hope they can move their child at some point later. Maybe schools need to get tougher with these parents - if your child is attending another school, then they're taken off the wait list and you can reapply or 'reactivate' your application the following school year. I don't know. All I know is that the wait lists are a serious problem - something that needs to be addressed. Good luck with your decision.

Eleonor, as an educator who specializes in private school education and has also worked extensively in Qatar, I disagree. Not every private school is the same and each has the right to establish it's own admission criteria. Some are academically selective, some have language requirements, etc. The private schools in Qatar are heavily regulated by the SEC - many would say too much so, especially as compared to the level of government involvement with private schools in other developed countries. I do believe that what the SEC should be doing is providing incentives to encourage new schools to open here -- keeping quality as a key criteria. New schools face a tremendous amount of challenges when trying to open here, and thus the rate of new schools opening is much lower than it should be to keep up with the demand. Just my 2 cents worth...

And I don't think I am delaying other children chances of getting in a place, well if I do, then so does every other mom who register their kids to more than one school. Well, the multiplication of applications is really a problem....but it is not our fault as parents, it is the fault of this disorganised school system.... at least, SEC should centralise the application system, and pose uniform and [u'>non discriminating criteria[/u'> as well as a limit to the number of applications...in this way it could be easier for families to apply and it could be easier for schools to accept children... what do you think?

I really appreciate all your reply. We only have been here in a short time, and I cannot say yet if my child is happy with the school or not. That is the reason I asked if anyone has done the move between two schools. I am not trying to know anything else except if there is a chance that maybe one is more suitable for my kid than the other. And I don't think I am delaying other children chances of getting in a place, well if I do, then so does every other mom who register their kids to more than one school.

If your child is happy at his/her current school and to be quite honest, both ASD and Doha College are very good schools, you should keep them at their current school. Why uproot your child? The wait lists for both schools are very long and keeping your child's place on the wait list while you and your child are happy with your current school situation/choice, is only delaying other childrens chances of getting a place at school. edited by tulip327 on 13/10/2014

I work at one of the schools and my children go to the other. They are different in many ways but both are full of happy interested children and super teachers, so if you managed to get places at both, I could only suggest flipping a coin edited by BEDH on 12/10/2014

The question I would ask is why, if your child is already enrolled in an excellent school (as both of these schools are) would you be looking to make a change? If you don't prefer one curriculum over the other, and assuming he/she is settled and happy where he is, why make a change?
