Ladies is there anyone out there who currently works for Qatar Airways in the office. My husband is an engineer and is looking for jobs in the middle east. I fancy Dubai as I go there as crew alot. However emirates never seem to be recruiting for the sort of jobs I want to do. I'm sure I could find another job but I fancy staying in the aviation industry. Anyway I was going to apply for a job at Qatar in their office but I wondered if they are good employers? I also wanted to know about their housing. I would prefer to get a house with my husband so do they give you the chance to live out of their compounds and just give you a bit towards accommodation? Also what are Qatar concessions like? Anyone who can give me any info would be amazing! Thanks

It would be much easier to get jobs in Doha but I really like Dubai and there are some really negative comments about Doha. It makes me worried as we don't have kids so not sure if Doha has as much for us. Any thoughts? We don't have children either, and I personally LOVE Doha! Was enthusiastic about it before we came, and 2 1/2 years later I still love it. :) We are currently in the process of my husband renewing his contract so that we can stay longer. I find that there is ALWAYS something to do whether it is participating in an organized event that is happening or getting out and exploring. It is very much a personal thing though. I know lots of people who love it here, and I know others who just make-do.

I don't have kids, and I have a Great time! I am 40 something, and have a great group of ladies that I socialise with, and we get together with husbands in the evenings and at weekends. I think there is a Lot to do in Doha, but like Anything/Anywhere, you need to make the effort Good luck with your decisions.

Hi AirHostie, I must be honest and say I don't love Doha per se, but I keep busy with the kids and activities and travelling. I know people here without children, some are enjoying it, some are constantly working on their exit strategy, so it's a very personal thing....! I lived in Dubai for 4 years and I would say if you're comparing the two, there are the same things to do here, just not always as *good* and not always as much choice iykwim. Perhaps you should post what your interests/activites are under a separate thread and see what feedback you get? A lot of ladies post on here who have no affiliation with QR so may not look at this thread. In any case I wish you the best with your decision making :)

Hello thanks for all your replies. Very helpful stuff! I actually am not just a trolley dolly I have a degree and previous experience in the job I am applying so hopefully that will help me! I don't want to reveal what I am applying for as this forum isn't very private so I shall wait to see if I am offered the job first. My main dilemma is whether to go for this job in Qatar or wait and see if my husband gets a job in Dubai then look for one there. I'm so torn! It would be much easier to get jobs in Doha but I really like Dubai and there are some really negative comments about Doha. It makes me worried as we don't have kids so not sure if Doha has as much for us. Any thoughts?

Hi AirHostie Have you thought about what you plan to do 'in the office'? Office jobs for ex-crew are actually pretty highly contested as there are very few office jobs that directly call on the skill set and there are a lot of crew looking to move into a regular office job. If you have extensive training experience, you might find you can get in that side (but most people I know haven't been successful). How you find they are in terms of employment etc will depend very much on which department you work for and what level of position you go into. You really can't compare treatment of pilots to office staff - they're treated completely differently (advantages and disadvantages of both). I suggest you are careful in what you post if you identify yourself by email address at any stage. Assuming you don't have the experience to go in at manager level, your accomodation will be based on sharing an apartment (or possibly a room). You can get housing allowance but it's reduced if you're on your husband's sponsorship. As DanLou said, the job title will give a good idea of what accomodation/money you'll be offered as (generally) job titles indicate grades. I'm guessing accomodation payment have increased since I left so can't help on indications. Please note that QR will not pay you any housing allowance if your husband works for a government body. They define 'government body' quite loosely :)

Hi AirHostie, At QR whether you are given company accommodation or an allowance is dependent on your position, grade and sponsorship agreement. If you want to let me know which job you're considering I can help you ascertain the proposed housing benefits. Post your email if you wish to talk offline...

I don't know about QA specifically, but many employers now will not give you anything toward accommodation if your spouse is getting housing. My employer (and I hear this is not uncommon) required a letter from my husband's employer confirming that they do not provide housing or school fees or flights before they would agree to include those in my package.

Hi! My husband is a pilot and his experience has been pretty good so far with QR. Don't know anyone in a office position. We can choose between company accommodation or ask for the housing allowance. Good luck!
