Hello,

I will be in Abu Dhabi in a couple of weeks and have been given the option of Aloft Abu Dhabi (National Exhibition Centre) or Centro Hotel Yas Island.

Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks!

It looks like I'll be at the Aloft hotel for the couple of months I'll be here. I'll be working at an office in the Silver Wave (?) tower, which I've been told is maybe a 20 min drive.

How is the road slower? Its a four lane highway vs city traffic with lights every block. there isnt traffic lights on every block, if you go down salam st they have got rid of them all, if you go down 30th its only until you go up to 19th and then u have traffic lights, then when the lights are working the traffic lights go with you, the othe way is to go on 34th as its roundabouts.

Why on earth would you go that way? Its like going down two sides of a triangle. because i keep forgetting to go that way, where i am its a very long way from my side of town. obviously if you are over by yas then it makes sense even though the road is slower and they have put on more cameras now.

It takes ten minutes from Yas Island hotels to the Corniche area along the freeway. i am not meaning down the new highway i am meaning the other end of the corniche through mataq/mussafah bridges etc.

What does "on" island mean? Isn't Yas an island, too? I guess I should look at a map as I'm headed over in a week! yes yas is an island, but what we mean by saying on island and off island. abu dhabi city is an island, so aloft hotel is catergorised as "on island" once you go to the places such as between the bridges, officers city, mussafah, mbz, khalifa city, the airport, raha beach, yas island etc etc these are all "off island". basicially if you have a car then any of the hotels on yas island are fine, but they are away out of the city like at least 35/40 mins to corniche, if you dont have a car then you will have to go for aloft hotel this is next door to the exhibitition centre, on a main road, next to car4 so you will have less of a problem getting a taxi and getting to things much closer in, say around 20 mins to the corniche.

Aloft will be easier for you to get around from. You might go a bit crazy being stuck on Yas (Centro) for 2 months. Taxis will be easy to get from Aloft as it is connected to the exhibition centre.

I would go for Aloft if you are not going to lease a car.

Hi, I will be working for a couple of months on a short contract as a consultant. I believe the office is in a building called Silver something. I'm not going to lease a car for 2 months so will hopefully find a reliable driver. I'm Canadian and in my 30s. Love to shop and spa!

depends what you are in Abu Dhabi for. Aloft is on island so easy access to the city centre. Centro is on Yas Island but with good access to the other hotels there, all within walking distance. Aloft is aimed at 25 - 40 year old, Centro is aimed at business people just wanting to get their heads down in a hotel with no frills (no room service etc). Personally I prefer the feel of Centro, reminds me of a Premier Inn in the UK - you get what you pay for, clean rooms etc. The bars are probably more lively at night at Aloft tho
