Hi Everyone,

we are going to be moving to Khalifa B in AD soon after a little pit stop in Dubai coming from the UK. Can someone please tell me what facilities are currently available in this area i.e. supermarket, schools, nurseries, medical facilities etc

I have heard that there is 'not much going on' in that area and am worried. My kids are 2, 3 and 8.

Are snakes, rats, bees, etc a common sight in villas? Have been putting off moving into villa because of this. Just a note on bees. The exterminators wanted to fumigate the beehive in the corner of our old backyard. Our Sri Lankan housemaid told us not to, and she fearlessly walked up to the hive with a bowl and knife, and had fresh honey dripping out of the bottom of the hive. The bees never bothered the children. When they exterminators came back, one of them again wanted to exterminate the hive, and this time their South Asian supervisor told them not to. I'm glad. (Of course, we didn't have to worry about bee allergies or it would have been a different matter!) This was on an edge of Dubai where there was a lot of construction, so there were a lot of rats and mice outside (even though there were cats everywhere), but they never came indoors. edited by SFtoUAE on 25/06/2011

Have been putting off moving into villa because of this. no never seen snakes, sometimes in villas off island you get little doormice, and no bees. Who told you this. The thing that people are getting now is in Al Reef they are getting redback spiders. I have lived in Khalifa A and B and the only things that I have seen are tiny mice occasionally. I lived in a villa in Between the Bridges and there was a bee hive in one of the trees...! so it happens everywhere not just in Khalifa B!

Thanks so much for the info Busybee2 that was extremely helpful. Intend to venture out on Sunday on a voyage of discovery? Let's see where my nose leads me! kcb has a lot going for it, but of course, most people head to kca because now its got banks, shops etc, but its really so busy getting into from the main highway, i remember when i lived there before everyone else, it was really quiet nobody wanted to cross over the bridge, they all thought that you needed a passport to cross over the bridge, bit of going back in time thing...!! lol

What school have you got your kids into? At their ages, it will be easy for you to make contact with other moms in the school yard, so you won't feel quite so a.lone. Good luck, and enjoy AD, it's not a bad place to live!

yep there are quite a few people living in kcb. i think its better than kca lived in both, kcb used to suffer with the sand blowing across the roads, not any more they have put in pavements, street lighting, drains, new signs so that people can actually find the addresses, there are 3 buses that go through kcb. the only schools currently are local arabic schools and the ozzie school. there are no shops at present but there is a emirates general market just across the motorway between 336 and 333 so like 5 mins away, but they will have to build something here. mafraq hospital is right here too a government hospital in case of emergencies, the main off island etislat is at mafraq like 5 mins away. there is another local shopping complex just across the road from mafraq too, but more importantly in baniyas again 5 mins or less away there is a new big mall happening due to open very very soon, and it will have a car4 loads of good shops and a cinema too, so no need then to drive to marina mall in town etc. delma mall in mussafah is like 10 mins, mayazd mall in mbz is less than 10 mins away. if you want cafes/banks/post office etc there are 5 mins away up in kca. there are a lot of families living in kcb from etihad so depending on what schools your kids go to sure will find someone that you know. if going to yasmina there is a school bus pick up in kcb too. nurseries only in kca, teddy bear, little smarties, humpty dumpty, stepping stones. schools in kca yasmina, raha, horizon, cis, american gems next year.
