Hi,

I have a daughter who is 3 on Sept 20th, I have rung Al Yasmina and they say the cut off date is the 1st so she has to be 3 on the 1st of Sept, they informed me to try and register in Jan 2012 for the new term in Sept 2012, is this right, and is the only other option for me to put her into nursey until she is allowed to go to school next year. I have also looked at the BISAD website which also looks good???? my son is 2 on Sept 1st, so does that mean they will both be able to start Sept 2012 and be in the same year?????

Any light on the matter will be appreciated, Thanks

Hello everyone, I am new on this site and I have been reading the comments on Brighton with great details. My daughter (3 yrs) has been accepted at both brighton and yasmina for FS1, and I am not sure which one to choose eventhough I have spoken to principals in both schools. I have read a lot of feedback comparing BSAK and BCAD, but any advice on yasmina and BCAD? Thx i would choose yasmina, why because yasmina has been running for 3 years, its gotten over its teething problems, its also run very similar to bsak, because the head of yasmina is a past senior head of bsak, the guy in charge of all the aldar schools was a head of bsak for like 10 years, a few of the teachers went to yasmina when it opened from bsak, its a very good school, i know a lot of people there. bcad, yes the school in uk may be very good, but the curriculum is different here to the uk, it has to be because it has to abide by the ministry's rules etc. its a new school so it will have teething problems, yasmina had problems and it had quite a few of bsak teachers who have been in the uae quite a few years and so knows the system. bcad doesnt have that, yes i know of 2 teachers that are leaving bsak to be head of science and head of music but those teachers have only been in abu dhabi and bsak for a couple of years so do not have the experience, one in music who has got a promotion to head of music and science who was head of science at bsak. it all depends on what you want, where you live etc. as your child is only in nursery it wont matter too much going to bcad as she will grow with the school etc. yasmina is cheaper than brighton i believe. the comments over bsak and bcad have been about how many people leaving to go to bcad from the most established outstanding school of bsak. i know of only 1 family who is moving over, and they cannot move the oldest child because it doesnt go up to that year yet. everyone's opinion is different so its difficult to say which one to go for its up to your family demographics etc.

I am glad that they have closed registration for these years rather than take on more classes like Aldar did. They have promised to be a selective school with a focus on English as a first language and I think closing this registration shows a commitment to the education standards they are promising. and the fact that they perhaps can only cater for x amount of classes in each year group etc, whereby aldar are using up classrooms in al bateen that are going unused in the first instance because the school is only catering for 3 year groups and then they know they are opening up another school to shift them to in a couple of years time.

Just to also add, There are so many conflicting reports on Schools, I live in MBZ, so the closest schools to me are Al Yasmina, BISAD, but that is all I know are there any other good schools to that I could try, the nursery that I was thinking of putting the kids into, if they need to wait until next year is Jigsaw just down the road, but do the schools run nurseries too???? jigsaw is the only brit nursery in mbz. in kca there are other ones, like teddy bear, humpty dumpty, little smarties. yes bsak does nursery but they have only 75 spaces, and the lower years are the worse way oversubscribed, to be honest you have missed the boat for next year anyway so its better that she has to wait for the following year, as then you at least stand a chance in getting into yasmina or bsak or wherever next time around. there is also brighton college but again they all have to be 3 on 1st sept so i am talking the following year. According to their website Brighton has now stopped taking application for Pre-Reception and Reception due to the number already received. wouldnt be surprised, but they could do what aldar schools did put on the extra classes to what is needed.

Hi Vll, I assume your son turns 2 in sept 2011. In which case, yes, they will both be in the same year.. In 2012, you could get discuss getting your daughter assessed for fS2, in case they have spaces.. The British curriculum schools are strict about this so am not sure how it would work- BISAD, i understood may not have such an issue- please post your query on the schools forum on the other board (abu dhabi woman dot com) as it definitely has more views in the Abu Dhabi section. If you are open to other systems, then Gems are opening in Khalifa A- they are American system- there is Canadian international school and also Al Raha international school in KCA- which is IB curriculum. As far as I know, these schools dont run nurseries, but they have what is called Pre FS/Pre KG levels Hope this helps be aware that this thread may get deleted if you post another website address. and to be honest you will get the same answer here as there. bisad should follow the same admission process as all the other schools, its down to the MOE. A child has to be 3 on the 1st sept for brit schools, so that will include bisad and the new one bcad.
