Hi, just in early stages of looking at Abu Dhabi - have been in Qatar & KSA and enjoyed compound living .. is this the way in Abu Dhabi? Can anyone pls recommend compounds? Pricing? Furnished or not? Is pricing paid yearly in advance or are 12 cheques given in advance? Any information would be greatly apprecited!

Hi, just read your note Busybee2 on A/c's for Raha Gardens .. is it expensive because the a/c units in the houses are old & in-efficient? Would you say the pricing for housing has dropped with all the Dubai troubles? its expensive as its chilled water coming from dimarco, and not from the water and electric dept. raha gardens isnt that old just a few years. pricing for housing has dropped in some places, but some landlords still keep the prices high, always been the way in abu and is still, but now there is more choice than a couple of years ago.

Thank you girls, Al Reef seems to be a little too out of town and a fair distance from hubbys work. Can you offer other suggestions of compounds? If agents are involved, does that mean you can't/ don't approach the compounds directly? Another thought, does housing include the cable TV or is this separate again? Please keep the suggestions for compounds coming - really appreciate it - thank goodness for this site! no you have to do EVERYTHING yourself. Where does your hubs work, and then i can tell you which areas to look at

Also have a look at Al Reef Villas behind the airport. That's where we are living. All nationalities mixed and house prices are a bit lower. We pay 170,000AED/year for a 5 bed with garden and pool. It's only 35min to the city center and 50 min to Dubai and only 10min from Yas Island. It's a nice development with an European atmosphere but you find Emiratis, Europeans, Americans and Aussies there. It's very well mixed and a perfect environment for families with kids as it is a huge enclosed community and the kids are playing on the road and in the park in the evenings together and all the maids are friends with each other and meet up with the kids int he afternoons. There are a lot of dog and cat owners and we have tennis court, communal pools and little gyms and this week two little shops are opening within the compound. It's definitely worth a visit and considering. But you definitely need 1-2 cars out there. inshahal for the little shops opening...lol and remember there is the new bus service but of course it does take some time to get in to town.

Thank you girls, appreciate the heads up ... wow, it's expensive and not to include at least white goods! Is there a site with more compound website/ information? My kids are 10 & 8 years - so looking at Raha International or the British school (Al Khubaira) .. boys have been doing British curriculum up to now .. how does IB compare? How far out is the British school? Oh, so many questions! no most places do not include anything, ad is very very different than the rest of the ME. Also remember unlike the rest of the world, you actually have to pay for the estate agents not the landlords! so thats another 5%of rent that you have to cough up. Be careful going into the ib system its different, and if you go back into the uk system you will have to go back down a year. British School Al Khubairat (BSAK) is on island at 19th and 24th. British International School of Abu Dhabi (BISAD) is on the Al Ain Road off island.

Hello. We've been here a month and live in Golf Gardens. Really nice compound and a good clubhouse. My eldest goes to Brighton College just on the island. It's a new school that has just opened but has so far been excellent! Worth a look. Hope you find what you want!

Any information would be greatly apprecited! most places are yearly in advance, but with some banks they may give you multiple cheques but you defo will not see 12 cheques as the norm, perhaps more so in dubai but not in abu dhabi, and even if it is spread out into 12 you still have to pay the whole amount if you decide to break the contract unless you have special notice written into the contract as it doesnt work like the rest of the world.

No white goods. My husband works in the city, about 30 mins drive door-to-door. 20 mins to airport. Carrefour 10 mins away. Schools close by- al Yasmina, Raha International School, GEMs and a Canadian school. Many nurseries at Khalifa - Humpty dumpy, little smarties, stepping stones, jigsaw, Teddy bears. This is the website, though not comprehensive. Khidmah manages the property, best to call them direct especially since they have the last say on rent. http://www.khidmah.com/properties/sas-al-nakhl Let me know if I can provide more information.

There are lots of compounds in AD, on island and off, but they are rather different than the ones in KSA I think. On island rentals of any type are more expensive than off. Most compounds, but not all, will have a communal pool and gym. It is rare to find anything furnished, and appliances are not generally supplied either. Most landlords require a year's rent paid in advance, but it is sometimes possible to pay in two installments.

Thank you Lifeonthemove .. does unfurnished include white goods eg: stove, fridge, washer? Does your compound have a website? Are you close to schools & city? Appreciate your time.

Hi, we are at Sas al Nakhl, off the island. We love it here. Nice big pool area, cafe and supermarket on site, barbershop, pharmacy and a spa. All villas unfurnished, 3, 4 or 5 bedroom villas priced between 180,000 to 250,000 a year, paid in advance. Good luck with your move.
