It does appear to be the case that protocols for doing things are sorely needed in many areas! In case you ever need further info there's a few Al Ain based info sources you could approach which might put you in touch with others who've been through the process: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/alainexpats/ http://groups.google.com/group/nialanews http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=457411 http://www.alainexpat.com/

Thank you for the information and the links! I did do the theory course at Emirates Driving Company but they were not good at explaining what else I need to do following that. The links you provided were very helpful. Looks like it is back to Emirates Driving Company for some lessons.

I can't personally recommend them for a driving licence but a friend did his motorbike licence with Emirates Driving School which is located just on the corner of the roundabout near Towayya Park. He seemed to be happy enough with it and got his licence. The following links will hopefully help you including explaining about the tests: How do I get a driving licence: http://www.abudhabi.ae/egovPoolPortal_WAR/appmanager/ADeGP/Citizen?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=p1296&did=129254&lang=en Emirates Driving Company Contact Details: http://www.abudhabi.ae/egovPoolPortal_WAR/appmanager/ADeGP/Citizen?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=p_citizen_departments&did=134504&lang=en How to obtain driving licence in Abu Dhabi?: http://frugalexpat.com/2009/08/16/how-to-obtain-driving-license-in-abu-dhabi/ Speedy way to obtain driving licence in Abu Dhabi: http://frugalexpat.com/2010/08/23/speedy-way-to-obtain-driving-license-in-abu-dhabi/

I'm needing to take some refresher lessons before I take the driver's exam in Al Ain. I haven't driven in almost 10 years. Can anyone recommend a good English-speaking instructor or just a reputable school with good (English-speaking) instructors here? There seem to be so many driving schools, I don't know which is best! And the licensing process seems so complicated. I've taken my "theory" course and passed the exam...now I'm supposed to take a reverse and parking test or something? Then the actual driving test? Can anyone shed some light on this process? Thanks in advance.
