BB2 is it the same procedure if u r renewing the card? And could you please give more details about the location (and maybe name) of the typing center? Thanks renewing is easy, now you can go to typing centres for renewal, all you need is your passport to show them new visa etc and money. i cant remember the name, next time i go past i will get it. if you are at the junction of 4th and 11th. one corner is mobile shops, opp corner is bus station/wadha mall, opp corner is emirates discount market and opp corner is nice fast car shop!! (and pearl sch behind) if you go from the fast cars and go down 4th st towards corniche way, its about 4th building along, its in the bottom and takes up much of the ground floor, big red sign its not difficult to find. if you are a woman you go to the end and the lady there will deal with you, but the couple of times i have been she is very very good, unlike some that i have heard about where by they, because english is their second language, they obviously make mistakes, here you see what she is filling in and you can check.

Renewing was much easier! I went to the Mussafa centre, walking past the long lines and waited about 3 minutes at the renewal counter. Only got the card today - took 4 months, but at least applying was easy. And sometimes, apparently, you can correct errors (date of birth, nationality, etc.) but sometimes you can't!

BB2 - do you have to do forms on line first still and all that or do you just take passport etc and they do all the paperwork at the typing centre? no you dont do anything on line anymore. all you need is your passport and money go to a typing centre they will fill out the form for you, usually they have 1 screen and you have a screen so that you can check the information that they input, sometimes its in arabic but your name etc usually comes up in english etc so you can see that its correct, you get a chance to correct if wrong before they submit. i went to the typing office opp green taxi rank etc as a woman you go to the end desk and deal with the woman, she is very good, each time i have done it no problems with the correct information being inputted (a big prob by the sounds of it why they have so many uncollected cards sitting in a big room in empost!!) anyways now once they submit the form it will come back with options for your appointment you pick and then go later to do the fingerprinting/picture/eye scan etc. each id is now valid for 2 years (same as your visa) but if you are government visa then still valid for 3 years.

I still haven't done mine despite planning to for... a year. Glad to know the process is quicker. It's on my 'to-do' list for the next 2 weeks. oh its much easier now, i did mine back in october no probs even back then as a woman, did typing at a typing centre opp wadha mall, then they said u would get an apt time texted to you etc, i thought no way i am going straight upto mussafah as on my way home, walked in empty for women all done and dusted in 5 mins! no way was i panicking like everyone else last year, q'ing up outside taking children out of school, they had to change the system....! there is no need to do it and make your life more difficult because of it, and then when people were panicking again over xmas..! so did my hubs paperwork at typing centre a couple months ago, and they kept changing his apt but went this morning, no probs at all really efficient and easy especially for abu!!!!

my hubs just went and did his ID and because they have now opened many more centres its a doddle. no need to q out in the streets at 6am as a lot of people panicked and did before, there are a lot more now in the post offices but our appointment was changed a few times and then instead of off island it was on island which is still a bit daft, lets see how long the card takes to arrive, mine was 3 weeks
