Hi Girls ,

Still trying to get kids into a school.

Gems American Academy Abu Dhabi advised they had places for both children, started application but then had a thought about a blog I had thought I read !?! Going mad :) I think I read.... if you swap from American to British you have to go back a year? Have I imagined this situation , as my son already has to redo the year as from Australia , I am worried. My son loves the look of the school from the Internet..is this a good school or am I being seduced by the fantastic looking facilities?! 3d planetarium , music studio etc etc.. Would an enrolement to the new Gems Cambridge be a better option as a British curriculum. Please any points of view would be very much appreciated. So far enrolled for Al Yasmina... Think zero hope there and BISAD. How many schools do people send applications for ?

remember that the two systems are different, uk is 13 years of schooling, and us etc are only 12 and thats where the different grading comes into it. with ozzie kids because you start your year in january thats where the difference is, the ozzie kids are usually older by a little bit.

Think zero hope there and BISAD. How many schools do people send applications for ? i would put in applications for all relevant schools. yes you are right the grading system for usa and british is different, they differ by one year, so yes they are out by a year. i would try and go for the curriculum that you will maybe one day go back to, but that being said its not really a problem for the younger children, only that in the usa system they will obviously not learn "correct english"..! and they will learn american history. be aware that if you do want to change curriculum mid year you have only up to 15th november to switch curriculums once enrolled into a school. the kids from oz are usually like half a year older than the british kids in the british curriculum schools, so yes they will have to repeat a little because of the different systems etc. as the british international is opening i would try that, but they are only going up to year 3 in the first instance, what age groups are you trying to get into?
