Hi All,

About to leave the US in 3 weeks.

Some questions about living in Raha Beach area. Initially we weren't even considering this area because I read somewhere that it's about a 40-min drive into the city, near Al Wahda Mall (which is close to my husband's office) and he isn't willing to commute that long. But a rep at his company said it's only 20 mins. Thoughts?

Also, how is the quality of the villas? And does the area have a community atmosphere? I understand there are a lot of nurseries/pre-schools around? And that it's dog-friendly? (We have a 2-year-old and a small dog).

I get the feeling that people either love or hate Raha Beach area... more thoughts?

Thanks!

I would say it's easily 20 mins when there is no traffic, which is like never :-). I used to work a few streets back from Wahda and it would take on average 30-35 mins. Some days it could take 1-1 1/2 hrs if there was an accident on Salam Strret. It's much quicker coming home though, prob less than 30 mins. Al raha beach is mainly apartments with a few townhouses, al raha gardens are the villas - these two areas are separated by a large busy highway, the main road to Dubai edited by Tazmin on 25/07/2014
